Question Generic Electronic Module

97 f-150 lariat with all the std features. It was a flood vehicle. I am repairing it and one item left. The power windows/interior lights(door activated) and the wipers/washer don't work. from the haynes manual (wiring dia) they are all connected to a Generic Electronic Module. What is this and where is it so I can fix/replace it.

This is for a 98, but it may help. Sorry I was not able to put in the pictures that go along with this.

1. CAUTION:
Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).

2. Remove the cover from the instrument panel fuse junction panel.

3. Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover (044F08).

1 Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover bolts.

2 Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover.

4. Remove the (A) bulkhead electrical connectors from the (B) instrument panel fuse junction panel.

5. Remove the (A) instrument panel fuse junction panel bolts and remove the (B) interior fuse junction panel nuts.

6. Disconnect the (A) generic electronic module/central timer module (GEM/CTM) electrical connectors from the (B) GEM/CTM.

7. Remove the GEM/CTM screws and the GEM/CTM.

Installation

Note:
When the battery (10655) is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

l Check for proper operation.

Refer to corresponding illustration.

Thanks for that helpful information,Mark S. I have the same symptoms as RICHW. Where can I find a GEM and for how much $$$? Also, I've seen other sites that say I need to do this at the dealership because this job requires a factory scan tool to download info from the bad GEM onto the new GEM. Any truth to this? Please respond. My wipers/washer pump and dome light and door chime don't work at present.
