Ignition Coil Pack problems

OK.

I have a low mileage (50,000 miles) 2001 F150 6 cylinder that is eating my coil packs (or so says the diagnostic computer). I've just replaced my 3rd coil pack this year.

With this new coil I also changed the spark plugs and cables. I changed the coil first and drove it a couple of days before changing the plugs. Truck drove fine for those two days. I changed the plugs and cables last night and when I tried to start the truck it would not start at first; acted like it was getting no power to the ignition switch.

I double checked my cables to insure I had properly connected them to the correct terminals on the coil (I had). Also made sure the connections were good. Fired it up again and it did start (with some trouble) and immediately began missing like it was running on 5 cylinders.

To recap, the truck ran fine for 2 days before changing the plugs and cables. After changing plugs and cables it is running as rough, if not rougher, than it did when the coil went bad.

Looking for answers to two questions:

One: What on earth is eating these coil packs (assuming that is the originating problem which I'm seriously beginning to doubt despite what the bloody computers say)?

Two: How could a simple spark plug change result in the truck resuming its previously rough running/missing status?

I am at a loss. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.
