1997 F-150 Odometer Not Working
I have been told by the local Ford dealership that I would need to replace the entire Instrument Cluster Panel in order to get my Odometer working. Everything else on the Instrument Panel works fine except the Odometer. I that the 1997 was the old speedo cable input, and the odometer is the old wheel type.
Has anyone had this problem and have you been able to correct it. Ford no longer has available the Instrument Cluster Panel and I live in Rural Texas and no local junk yards.
Regards

instrument panel HELP!
1998 F150 4.6L, Start the truck all the gauges read normal until the coolant temperature starts to come up. Suddenly, oil pressure pegs, volts drop to -0- but the rest of the gauges appear fine??? Pulled the cluster out, couldn't find any cracks, new battery, cleaned all the body & frame grounds, still doing it?? If you let the truck cool down just a couple minutes & re-start it, same thing happens. Any help would sure be welcome. Truck has 152,000 miles.

I need to post on this. I had my cluster quit working. No gauges, but still illuminated. Auto lamps also were in the on position and not functioning. Lights would come on if turned on manually. Turns out There's a fuse that was out and it has something to do with the overdrive and the auto lamps. The over drive popped the fuse at least three more times. Now it doesn't do it. Some research has revealed a wiring issue with the over drive switch on the gear shift **** rubbing and shorting causing this fuse to blow. I have yet to investigate that. An important side note, you must pull the fuse. Testing the fuse with a tester does not work unless the truck is running! Hope this helps some people from Replacing GEM's or clusters I they don't need to.

cluster problems
I am having trouble with the same issue, could you send me the message as well?
I put a visitor message on your UserCP yesterday.
Drop me an email via my profile. Need to get you the Instrument cluster test documentation ( 413-01 ). Where you are at, you need to pull the cluster, and I want you to have everything when you yank it, rather then having to check here all the time.

I am new at this forum. My Brother has a 1997 Ford F-150. He needs a wiring diagram of the instrument cluster, and what each of the three connectors control. He is trying to identify why the odometer is not working and some of the other gauges. Reading your post I see that you are very knowledgeable.
