I just purchased a 2008 FX4. I purchased H13/9008ST & 3157ST bulbs. Looks like the factory fog lamp bulbs are 9140 which I believe are 40w bulbs.

Has anyone replaced the 9140 bulbs with 9145 Silverstar bulbs? If so any issues with melting the fog lamp housings?

 

I did the 9145 upgrade in my 2006. No problems yet.

The 9140 bulb is a 40W bulb, the 9145 is a 45 W bulb.
Problems can come into play with the 9005 bulb modification, which is a 60 W bulb.

Now that someone has responded to my thread let me ask a couple more questions: I run my fog lamps anytime the low beam head lamps are on. Have you used yours in that scenario and not melted fog lamp lenses? Are you running the std. 9145s or Sylivania Silverstar 9145STs?

PS: I have no intention of running the 9005s as the problem has been well documented.

 

The Sylvania Silverstars are great replacements. Personally I do not have a NBS F-150 so I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet my next paycheck that an increase in 5W won't cause a melting problem.
