Removing The Headlight Switch - Pics added

To remove the headlight switch simply remove the ****, turn it 180 degrees, put it back on, turn the headlights on, and pull the switch out of the dash. When you do this it moves the clips out of the way and saves the fingers from getting sore.

Cheers

That only works part-way through the 2000 model year. At some point, they did away with the self-unlocking headlight switch in favor of three metal spring clips.

Why do they always change things? I thought this was a pretty good set up.

Thanks for the help guys.

I got it out by prying the clips closes.

I never could get the shaft to act like it was going to retract the clips.

It may have been broken by the previousl owner.

But I do have dash lights for the first time in 4 months!

I just finished doing the fogs on with park & highbeams mod. Very simple to do.

Here's the tutorial I used. Great one, BTW.

I know this post is old but I'm search the boards for help on replacing my switch.

I just replaced all of the dash bulbs on my 97 F150 (I was down to one working bulb) and broke my switch.

I'm trying to figure out which part to buy but the idea of taking the **** off, rotating, and re-inserting is stupid. Only an engineer could come up with something so dumb.

The simple thing is to go with clips.
