Std cab the BSM/VSM is just under the rear speaker area ( still on the back wall, but closer to the rear c-pillar.

I did not take the rear panel cover off when I had my seat back out, but it looks like it would be to the outside of where the center seatbelt is at ?
No, I did not see the work. I never get to see any of it at the dealer. It was my understanding that it was a ground on the back wall or the box itself. They tried to program it and it would not complete until they traced that ground out.

Good point, sure it is not just hanging loose back there

The ground to the BSM/VSM would be in Connector C3008B ( green 16 pin connector, 2 rows of 8 ), pin #2. Pin #2 is on the connector tab side, 2nd up from the bottom ( should be a white w/ violet next to it, this is pin #10 ).
3008A is also on the BSM, it is a blue (?) 16 pin connector ( 2 rows of 8 ).
3008B should also have wires in pins # 4,5,12 & 13 ( this is the keypad inputs ).

Edit :
Forgot the keypad also has a ground. This is what the key closed with, to the BSM/VSM. This is Ground G303
Ground G303 is in the driver's side kick panel, just above connector C248 ( pictures in Technical Articles )

Keypad illumination is from the BSM/VSM ( both power and ground for the key illumination ) so I would think if the keypad does not light up, it could be the programming part ( not at all sure about this ).
