Hi all,

I have '98 5 speed, 4.2L, 4x4 with 80,000 miles. Been a great truck.
Last couple of days, it won't start at first attempt. Dash lights all come on but motor won't turn until I turn the key a second time.

Took up it to the dealer and they thought maybe it was the safety switch but of course it started up fine for them while they had it. At least they didn't charge me.

So I go pick it up today and sure enough on first attempt, no ignition.

Before I make another trip to the dealer, I wanted to see if you think I should just have them replace the switch or maybe there's some other problem.
Ideas?

It will be difficult to replace the neutral safety switch on your truck since it doesn't even have one....

Electrical circuit for the starter relay circuit is:

Key switch to underdash fuse F21 to the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch to the starter relay under the hood. When the starter relay is energized, the full battery power is available to run the starter motor to crank the engine.

Check for proper battery voltage at the small terminal at the starter relay when the clutch is pressed and the key is in START. That will tell you where to start looking.
