The same search brought me here also. But, the WD-40 trick is only temporary. You WILL be replacing the switch, eventually.
          BTW, welcome to the forum.

Tried the WD40 trick on my 97 several times w/ no luck. Going to try new switches and see where that gets me. The truck sat for 3 years so I wouldn't be shocked that they are bad. But if the new switches don't fix the problem, where is the relay that some have replaced? The fuse panel under the dash or the fuse panel under the hood?

If it is the interior lamp relay, that is in the cab fuse panel.

          WD-40 Trick

If the light is on and the doors are shut then spray some WD40 in to the latch. The door switch is probably stuck.
Spray in both doors then open and close them a few times. sometimes you will need to spray a lot of WD40 and it will run out the bottom of the doors. Just leave them open until it drains out.
The WD-40 trick worked great on my 2006 F-150, the trick is just to open and close the doors a couple times.

door ajar message on odometer and dome lights stay on when doors closed

I had mechanic check out he told me it was in dash board when it comes on i bang on dash and lights go out.It may take 1 or 2 times but it goes out.Ihad another mechanic look at it he says its not in cluster because radio is tied into relay in cluster so it wouldnt work if dome lights were on.Itried all the sprays and nothing works.I have in shop now and they checked it out all day and havent found problem yet hoefully tomorrow they do .Its driving me nuts its a 2006 f250 superduty xlt

After a run through the car wash that includes interior cleaning by car wash crew, dome light and cargo lights staying on but not "Door Ajar." I will try the WD-40. EDIT: Never mind. Dimmer switch turned all the way on.

I hadn't seen anyone mention that the alarm was going off, which for me is the most frustrating sympton along with the dying battery. I thought I had it figured out by changing out the battery which kept things normal for about a month (I thought a dying battery was sending funky voltage tripping the alarm or sensors.) Till tonight that is when the alarm went off again with the same symptoms all mention...I'm certain now that somehow the humidity where I live (San Carlos, Sonora) is gettin' in and arching something or is jammin' up the switches all mention. I've got the lube/rust remover and sil-based lube... I'll give it a shot in the morning. Thanks all for the info..will follow-up.
