Emergency Section

I was thinking of an emergency forum where people can post an emergency they might be having, like a dead battery, or truck won't start... etc. Then after it gets resolved, move it to an appropriate forum.

I think this place qualifies for something like that with all of the traffic this place receives.

What do you think?

Where would you propose that a forum like this was placed within our current structure?

After doing some careful thinking, I'd think it would be a great idea to have it as the first thing on the page.

The only thing is that it would have to be "cleaned out" frequently when problems get resolved.

I've seen this on a few truck forums, one comes to mind is Turbo Diesel Register. I think it's a very good idea when you are in a pinch in the middle of the night and the only thing you've got is the Internet.

This seems like it would require a lot of work on the mods part to keep it running. Plus, people sometimes think "what wheel backspacing do I need?!?!" is an emergency. It's a great idea in theory, just seems a little impractical.

Could you link me to a couple of them that you've seen?

Many people have access inside their trucks now with blackberrys and such.
I have seen numerous threads of that type.

"My brakes have failed and the bridge is out...what to do...quickly people, quickly..."

Yeah, those people are annoying. It's always all about them. Some of us have better things to do with our time.

1. TDR Forum:

http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...-disabled.html

They have a "911" Section...

2. DieseltruckResource.com:

http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...splay.php?f=97

They have an emergency "HELP" section...

3. Cumminsforum.com

http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/91...nt-situations/

They have a "911" Section...

I think since we do have people that use their trucks to make a living and the fact that technology has expanded to the point in which you can dial in this forum on most mobile phones with WAP browsers and even Blackberries, Iphones, and WindowsMobile devices. I and others think it would be a worthwhile venture. Also, many people turn to the Internet to try to fix their truck before heading to the dealer or mechanic.

It's nice to talk about prospective stuff, and the general banter that goes on... but there should be one part of this forum dedicated for immediate need that could have an impact on whether someone is stranded on the side of a dangerous road or not. But keep it to the point in which F150online.com and it's members are withheld from any liabilities that are incurred within the help and guidance given within.

Just a note...

I let this one fall down to allow some time for further posting in support/against the idea. I kind of like it and, as such, I think we'll probably do it... I'm still struggling though on placement.

I don't have a problem with maintenance (as in, cleaning it out -- that's actually kind of easy on our end) but, I'm just not sure where it should be -- and I'm not sure I want it atop the current structure. Thoughts?

We could start by putting it in the Owner's Connection area and see how it goes.

It seems to me that if you don't put it at the top, it's not much of an emergency.

I would do it at the top of the Forums list with it's own green band and maybe have it as EMERGENCY!!!(flashing) . You need something to distinguish it. You could even have some other color band, Maybe red, or yellow.
