Shoutbox Addition

Steve -- Considered adding a 'shoutbox' to the forum? Check out www.autopia.org...

It's basically a 'chat' window atop the forum's main menu. Similar to the chat that we had several years ago but, I think it runs through vB Code.

Just a thought...

Ahh... I can see the response to this one now ...

Why? Online Chatters' conversational needs that much different from everyone else on the board?"

Hell - it would just be taken over by the few capons in that " I want this post to have a million twits" thread. Dat's yer 'litterbox' right thar.

In point of fact - isn't that the purpose of General Dementia?

Don't need yet another similar venue.

Just sayin' ....

Cheers

While I see your point, MGD... I also see the other side of that coin. I think it would actually REDUCE the number of posts landing in Gen. Disc. and would yield an even more personal atmosphere here at the site.

While there would be some abuse -- we have abuse on the forums too -- if the system is set up so that it could be generally managed by the moderators and some simple 'self-policing', I think it could be very successful.

The late/great chat that we had wasn't used frequently as many didn't know we even had it available. It was a separate link that had to be clicked and often didn't work correctly. I, for one, would argue that live conversation would limit the number of short-lived garbage posts and would encourage more interaction between individiual members on the site.

Again, I see both sides of the coin but, I see a need and use for both Gen Disc and such a shoutbox.

Thanks for the clarification RP. I see your perspective more clearly now.

Appreciate it.

I think that is an awsome idea.

Ive always kinda wanted a little chat type thing. And as RP said, I also believe it would cut down on some of the worthless or small post. Kinda nice to ask a question and get an answer right then also
