As the owner of a few somewhat-popular forums myself, I really don't get why there is a 4 images per post limit and why we can't use font color wrappings such as: red text
Why is there a 4 images/post limit? It seems kind of stupid to me, especially on a forum where people want to post several pictures of their trucks or truck products. I have had to start threads and post like 8 times in them just so I could show all of the images I wanted to. Senseless.
Let me guess, the image limit is for 56k'ers? Hello! We're in 2006, like 85% of the people that use the internet are on a connection that's at least 1MBPS - that's 20 times faster than dialup.
I also don't understand the font coloring thing. We can bold out text, we can underline it, we can italicize it, and we can bold/underline/italicize it yet we can't color it to make certain words stand out. Why? It doesn't slow down the database by a mere nanosecond. If you allowed people to do dramatic gradient texts (which take LOTS of time to do - you know, fading from one color to another slowly, etc.) then yeah, it would slow down the database. But no one has the time to do that, no one hardly even ever thinks of doing it (especially on a forum about trucks..), and I doubt anyone would do it. So why can't we color text? I don't think it's something that is abused hardly ever. I go to like 50 of the most popular internet forums in existance and I can't think of any of them except this one that don't allow coloring fonts.
Neither of these issues pose any threat to forum security. I'm guessing it has something to do with 56k (image limit) and obnoxiousness (no font colors). But I think I've already explained why I think it's a dumb reason to have such limits on such a big forum...
Well that's my rant. I love the forum, I just don't like the whole images/font color thing.
I don't really care much for different colored fonts, to each his own I guess. But I think you would be surprised as to how many people still have dial up and that's all that is available in their area. So I would hate to exclude even a few from this site.
Although a survey might be interesting. Just to see how many only have dialup.
Yeah the post limit is kinda lame, I am also a member of LS1tech.com (just getting started) And they have a cap of like 15 images i think, and color...
Anyways, with the popular photobucket, lowering the size limit per picture, [if you dont believe me look at an older pic compared to same image uploaded today] that the average size of picture on each page is reduced, so we should be able to have more pics allowed, even 8-10 pics would be awesome.
And i have a thread i started about my Sub enclosure, and as i went it sucked to only be able to post 4 pics at a time, then i run into the 30 or 60 second rule about posting back to back...... <-- not complaining about time rule that one makes sense.
It most bothers me when i want to show 4 pics, and include my sig, which has a pic in it, so that makes 5.
I agree most people have more then dial up, but i know a few personally that still do have it. I personally have 5mbps for 34.99 a month, its actually cheaper then 2-3mbps cable....
Honesltly i can care less about color text but i guess it means more to certain people.
Thanks,
-Patrick

Good luck on those "somewhat popular" forums you run. I'm sure you just love it when your new users call you out and take condescending know-it-all shots at you like this. Real professional.
1) We no longer allow colored or sized text because it got abused. And, much like your post, I do find it obnoxious.
2) Hello! We don't allow more than four images per post because we have no control over outside image hosting services. When someone tries to post 15 pictures from their ISP hosting account on a slow and tired server, their 100x dialup cable modem service means absolutely nothing. We encourage people to post a few pictures and direct people to their free gallery on F150online.com.

Well, if you did read my post correctly you could easily tell that I was referring to the fact that we cannot post more than 4 images or post colors as stupid, dumb and senseless, not you or this helpful forum.
In regards to what was furtherly posted in the thread...
I don't think using colors in a post is feminine at all. I think it would be very useful to color important words certain colors like red and blue to make them stand out. Or like in one of my recent threads where I had a "yay or nay" thing going on in regard to truck mods, in my original post I had written 'yay' in green bold font and 'nay' in red bold font - only then did I found that colors weren't allowed to be used for some reason. Point being, color emphasizes words and makes posts and words more intesting and more inviting to read when used sparingly. Also, I don't think a forum made up of 99.9% guys is going to have to worry about guys coloring their posts pretty colors all over the place, but it would be nice to at least have the option available to be able to color a few words of a post at the least.
In regards to the ISP thing about hosting images, I honestly can't say I know of many people that use their ISP to host images. I don't see why a forum should withold options to its users so that image hosters can be happier. There are already sites like ImageShack where you can upload as many pictures as you want and they're usually there forever and they actually want you to use their free image uploading service. In the end run, regardless of who is hosting my pictures (ImageShack, my ISP, my personal server, etc.) if I want to post 24 pictures of my truck in a thread I'm going to darn well do it - doesn't matter if I can do it all in one post or if I have to *obnoxiously* reply 5 more times to my own topic. I could set up a webpage with pictures of my truck, I could make a gallery of truck photos, or I could just link the photos - but then what is the purpose of making a topic here about my truck? If you're going to make a nice big topic about your nice '06 F350 and say everything there is to say about it, then you might as well include some media with it too... even if you have to *obnoxiously* reply many of times in your own thread to do so.
Well if you look up in my post, you can at least highlight words in red, if they are that significant. Its the same thing that happens when you search for a word, it highlights the word you searched for in peoples posts.
