Thumbs up 98 F150 4x4 Lariat - What Chip do I want?

I just picked up a nice older F150 with a 4.6L.

What superchip do I want to buy to put in it? I want to lose the soft shifts, free up some power...but I won't be rodding the piss out of it.

I'm new to all of this and I know Zero about chips, brands, or what to look for and avoid.

I appreciate any help, tips, advice any of you can give me.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

You could research these:
PHP»Gryphon or multi position chip.
Troyer»SCT Xcal.
VMP»SCT Xcal.
Edge»EVO.
Hypertech?
There are a lot of options out there for you and your truck. These are just a few options for you.
What are you looking for?
Plug+play?
Canned tunes?
Custom tunes?

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. For awhile I wondered if anyone even wanted to bother replying since this year of truck is technically "yesterdays news."

I'll be real honest with you...I don't know what plug + play, canned tunes, or custom tunes are?

I just want to take care of the "soft shift" and increase the power a bit. Nothing crazy..I'm not racing..I just want it to be a little stronger if that makes sense.

Sorry if I'm being a pain. I just don't know alot about any of that yet.

Thanks for your time.

Canned tunes are what come on the programmer from the factory.»Like edge, gryphon, xcal, hypertech.
Custom tunes are written by a tuner for you and your truck.»Like gryphon, xcal.
Canned programmers cost anywhere from 100-550.
Programmers with customs cost anywhere from 350-700+
General entry is around 400 for reputable+reliable units. If your just looking to improve your shifts and be a liitle stronger thers nothing wrong with»gryphon, edge, xcal canned tunes.
The bonus about the edge/gryphon is you get gauges with the programmer.
With your truck you could do a multi position chip also. Which you can change with ease.

which tuner/tuning device is right for you????

since you missed the sticky, here it is

Questions About "TUNES"? Read This!

only you can answer that question, you need to research the ones available and then decide which one you want

#1 whatever you do decide a custom tune will always outperform a canned tune

#2 do not use a tuning device to uincrease your shift firmness, either do the J-mod or get a shift kit such as the transgo (most user friendly) some guys like a good solid (harsh) shift and we use the factory tech seperator plate kit
