Question '08 F-150 4x4 5.4L 3v Edge Evo vs. DiabloSport Predator

Fill me in on the two, can't decide which to get. Need Pros and Cons of both. I have heard that both leave "footprints" on PCM and Ford dealer will locate it and void warranty if something happens when either have been installed. Also have read Edge produces tranny problems but also has made a lot of people happy with their choice of the Edge Evo. Not found anything on the DiabloSport Predator on any F-150s. Fill me in people. Thanks.

Your best bet is to use the search button and enter the names in the space. Also check out Gryphon, it beats both.

There is a ton of info on Edge and Gryphon, not so much on Diablo, but some.

Not sure what you mean, but yes, you have to be logged on. And you are now. Click on the search button, then select advanced search. In the space, enter your subject and you should get tons to read. Also, check custom tunes.

right I wasn't logged in but now that I am it let me search. Will look for a few more hours, but I am finding nothing but people going with the Edge just to watch parameters or to really put the programmer to use and do the Edge into Gryphon or just the Gryphon itself. Im not looking to do custom tunes and all that, just looking for a cheap, low way to get small HP gain and to be able to watch EGT, TFT, and MPGs for sure.

Its not so much the brand I would be worried about but the quality of the tune actually loaded on the device. Now just comparing the 2 tuners the Edge seems to have the advantage. You can mount it on your dash and like you said you can monitor whats going on. Key thing is find a good reputable seller on here and purchase a "custom tune".

I have used both on my 04. I'm not sure if the Predator is tunable. It's better then the other brands at 4wheel parts or most local 4x4 shops. The downsides are it loads alot slower then the Edge and you still have to carry it with you just in case of a break down in which you have to revert back to stock which always had me worried about it getting stolen. Not that you can't yank the edge out but it's mounted and not loose in the glove and easily noticable if missing. Also, I love the gauges.

Read above for those naive to think valet, dealer, quicky lubes, etc do not look in to your glove box. You are the perfect traget as you will "NEVER" know when or where something was stolen from becuase ...you though people only steal what they can see.

Anyhow, back to the poster. As I said previously the Predator loaded the fastest of the units hte local shops sold and the Edge loaded twice as fast as the Diablo. Allthough now Diablo has a new fancy programmer that mounts on the dash and looks similar to the Edge (but no pod) as well as Bullydog. You may want to look in to those as well. One of them is touch screen.

What about a custom tuned SCT Xcal3 from a reputable tuner? I've had the Edge Evo on my truck and my Xcal3 from VMP Tuning with custom tunes blows it out of the water like you wouldn't believe. I have much more power and it drives so much smoother. Throttle lag is non exsistant and so smooth. The transmission shifts so smooth and strong now. I'd highly recommend you take a look at the SCT Xcal3 tuned by VMP Tuning.

http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...=226&parent=66

Also, the tuner will not leave a 'foot print' on the PCM. The diesels are a different story. When the PCM is flashed with a new tune it will need to conduct a driving cycle otherwise you will throw a code P1000 which means a driving cycle needs to be completed. This can happen when the battery dies or the PCM is reflashed. However the dealer can not tell a difference between the two. So if you're questioned all you'd need to tell them is the battery had died recently.

I hope this helps!

Don't think you're right here, but it's really a minor point. If a dealer has the equipment and really wants to check, it's my understanding there is some data value in the PCM that says it's received an "unauthorized" tune. Generally, dealers will not do this.

And, the P1000 code is set on all PCMs, diesel or gas when you change a tune. It's not a biggie, but it will cause you to fail an emissions check if it's still there. But you were right about that code being set also if you disconnect the battery.
