JackandJanet I've spoken to a lot of tuners and Ford engineers about how the PCM sees a PCM reflash on the gasoline motors of the 2004+ F150s and 2005+ Mustangs. I used to own a 2007 GT500 and this was a common question that was always asked. A lot of Ford engineers also owned GT500s and assured many owners how the PCM worked. This is where I've got my information and there is nothing that tells the PCM otherwise. Yes the P1000 is set on anything when the PCM is reflashed or the battery is disconnected, regardless of it being diesel or gas.

I'd highly recommend you take a look at the SCT Xcal3 tuned by VMP Tuning.

Also, the tuner will not leave a 'foot print' on the PCM. The diesels are a different story. When the PCM is flashed with a new tune it will need to conduct a driving cycle otherwise you will throw a code P1000 which means a driving cycle needs to be completed. This can happen when the battery dies or the PCM is reflashed. However the dealer can not tell a difference between the two. So if you're questioned all you'd need to tell them is the battery had died recently.

I hope this helps!
Any good custom tune will blow the Edge canned tunes away. I ran the Edge Level 3 for 30,000 miles and have now run the Gryphon tunes for about 30,000. The Gryphon tunes are mush stronger, better shifting and especially downshifting than the canned tunes. Either the Xcal 3 or the Gryphon is well worth the money.

OK, I certainly don't want to get into an argument here. I was only repeating what Bill Cohron told me about Ford being able to tell if a tune had ever been loaded into a PCM. He said it could be done, but I really think it's a moot point, since there's really no reason for them to check for this.

id stick with custom tuning. its close to the same price and makes a much more difference to how the truck drives.

i ran VMP on my old f150 and had no complains.

dad runs the gryphon on his f150 with no complaints.

sister has the edge on her f150 with no complaints.

we like ford if you were wondering.
