New SCT from VMP

All,

I got my my new tuner with 3 tunes on it! I am waiting for my truck to be fixed (minor bumper damage) so I have not loaded any tunes yet. I am leaving for a long trip from NY to Colorado on Wed but I am a little leiry to do it just incase I have any issue. So should I say screw it & do it or wait till I return after hunting?

I would install the tune. If there are problems, return it to stock.

Thanks Windsor! I may try it & see what happens. From what I have seen they usually go pretty smoothly!

Chances are you won't have any issues so I would install it as well. Try and do it during VMP's normal business hours (if possible) so that you can get help if you run into a problem.

Problems are rare, but stuff happens. Follow the instructions on the tuner and turn off all power accessories that normally come on when you turn on the ignition key (engine off). That would be radio, a/c fan, automatic lights, etc. You want to avoid any interruption in power while you're doing the upload of your stock PCM to the programmer and the download of the program for the PCM. The first time it uploads the stock profile, it takes a while, so don't get impatient. Also, don't be alarmed if displays go blank or the TPMS light comes on. You do not what to unplug the tuner from the port until the programmer has done it's thing and prompts you to turn the key off. When there is an interruption in power during the upload or download, it can corrupt the PCM. You want to take all precautions to keep that from happening.

I have owned the SCT software for about six years and have flashed the computer in this truck and my former Expedition many, many times. I haven't had any problems yet.

Thanks guys! I think I am going to gibe it a shot Tuesday morning jusy incase I have an issue I can call Justin at VMP. I will make sure nothing is on when I connect it. When I go to do it does the ignition key need to be on or off? With traveling such a distance I want to load the 87 octane mileage tune first and see what that does for me!

You want the key off when you plug it in. It will prompt you when to turn the key on, but the engine off, after you tell it to program. You won't start the engine until the programmer is unplugged from the port. Just follow the instructions on the programmer. I usually turn my key on before I plug it in and turn off all electrical accessories that you have control over. I usually roll the windows down and close the door, so the dome light goes off and you have some ventilation while it does it's thing.
