okay, I'd like to eventually add a CAI and an exhaust, but it probably won't be for a while...so if it is mostly stock like mine, you think the evo is the better way to go? maybe switch to a Gryphon once i have a few more mods

My choice would be the Gryphon, run the canned tunes a while, figure out what you want from the tunes. I would do the very low cost mod to the stock intake decribed in the How To section( I have). Order custom tunes when you know more what you want. The custom Gryphon tunes can be written to take advantage of a CAI if you decide to do that later and take advantage of the mod to your stock intake.

Just a side note, the cheap mod to your stock intake does almost as much for you as a CAI and costs about $15 to do.

I keep looking in the how to and intake section, but can't find it. What exactly does the mod do?

yes tuners do a lot for gas engines it not all about hp and tq gains
on top of the hp and tq gains you get better shifts better gas mileage, and you can also mess around with tons of engine and transmission parameters

i just got the Edge for my truck two months ago i went from a 10.xx sec 0-60 to a 7.4 0-60 i can pass better i can pull hills better it shifts down at almost any speed now and i gained 3-4 MPG and most of my driving is city it is definitely worth the investment

YES! There is a big difference in power and the way the truck shifts and drives. I'd honestly buy it just for the fact of the better shifting and driveability. Justin at VMP Tuning writes some great tunes. It took a couple of weeks to get my Xcal3 from VMP with 3 custom tunes. I haven't regretted dropping the cash one bit. It really woke my truck up!

There's also another, earlier conversion thread you might want to look at here: Do It Yourself Intake Modification for 1997-2003 F-150 but it applies to pre-04 trucks.

My edge evo works very well. I have noticed considerable more power at the start which works very well for me with the trailers, better shifting and I like the guage pod. I have probably not gotten better mileage since I am still enjoying the extra power. One question I do have is reguarding temp readings. What temp thermostat does the 04 5.4 use, I normally thought they were 190 degree ones, but I am getting cylinder head temps of 195 to 204 and the dash guage is still reading around 50% hot/cold, not quite the same thing but anyway. Those of you that are in the know, the digital readouts on the edge evo (mainly CHT, TFT, ECT and oil temp), what should the normal ranges be for those displays. Thanks for the input, this site has been extremely helpful. Also the above homeade CAI topics were interesting and informative.
