I have to ask: "Are supper chips better than the ones you get at lunch with your hamburger?" Do they produce more gas too?
Sorry, I simply could not resist. I THINK you are asking about a SuperChips programmer, right?
There've been several threads regarding the merits of different programmers in this forum. The SuperChips line holds "canned" tunes if I'm not mistaken and some people on the forum have been less than satisfied with the product, I believe.
If you really want better performance and gas mileage, I think you'll be happier with a custom tuned Gryphon or an X3 from one of the "big name" tuners you read about on this forum: Bill Cohron, Mike Troyer or Justin Starkey.
I had a Super Chips Micro ( 1515 or something like that PN ) on my 2001.
As Jack posted about, the Mirco tuner is canned tunes, and only Premium fuel.
The Chip type ( scrap off conformal coating and plug in ) can have custom programming, including other octane fuels, but why go that route when the newer programmers ( via the ODB port ) can offer the same thing.
I don't know if any tuner still offers the chip type of programming these days.
If you buy one used, it might not work depending on the PCM revision you have, and what it was made for.
Some times the old canned tuners come up in the Classified Forum, or even as a Jr Member, you can post a thread in the Parts Wanted forum looking for one.
The better mpg part, I never saw, but I had my foot in it too much to give it a chance.
I had E-Fans, intake, and a Bassanni true dual kit from a Lightning modified to work with the 5.4 Screw I had.
An easy modification is to do the E-Fans ( parasitic loss ) and an intake, and see where you are at, prior to a tune, if the primary result you are looking for is millage gains.
I don't think there are any positives associated with SuperChips. From what I've heard, PHP doesn't program the V6's, so VMP or Troyer are your only bet. Sounds like you should have held out for a V8 if you don't like the power of your 6.
