Sniper

well me and my buddy *Masterbeatty on here* went half n half on a sniper programmer. he has a 97 Expy 5.4L Longtubes 3" Y-pipe into super 44. CAI. 3" body lift 3" torsion crank 37" Pro comps. E-fan

i have a 97 F-150 4.6L CAI, Longtubes reduced to 2 1/2 true duals into dynomax ultra flows. E-fan.

we found one for 380 bucks. and can tune 2 cars or trucks right out of the box. should be here sometime this week or next week. will let you know how it goes. Cant wait now my truck will know what to do with all my bolt ons.No more CEL either!!!

Anyone ever used the sniper or hear anything about it? i think it should be fun to try and learn.

I have a sniper tune on my 06 as well. The problem is, I tuned it with the older version. The only thing it did for me was delete my rear o2 (no cats on my truck). I noticed no difference in power.

I have been trying for almost a year now to get the newer software so that everything will work on it, including shift firmness. But, I have had no so good luck.

I am really curious how mush of a difference the shift firmness makes.

Oh, forgot I posted in here.

Pick up is nice (well, as nice as it can be for the 4.6 and this heavy Expy). Shift firmness was modified, and shifts are nice and firm, as well as throttle position dependent. I think I have it shifting at 5300. Uses 93 octane.

MPG...well, I've never been able to keep a consistent MPG, mainly because I do various type of driving. I think the highest I've gotten was 18-19, going 80+ on the highway. Around town, it seems to be 14-15, but it'd be higher if I didn't drive like I do.

We had some issues last night when we tuned it you have to plug the interface to the truck have it read the stock tune then go plug it into the computer and it makes a file with your box code so its there.

took us about 2-3 hours to figure it out last night. But oh boy does it make a diff. the only bad thing is only 99+ can ajust for gears and tires because of the elec. speedo. Set mine up for everything my truck has and holy crap it feels like a completly diff truck. Even when im not in it just feels like i dont have to work it as hard. set the shifts to firm and they are just that nice and firm. tuned for 87 oct. because it says to tune for whats in there now. next tank ill get 93 oct and write a tune for that. i really like this and highly recommend it. Takes a little bit to get it going but read the book it helps alot.

Of course like every other time i put something on my truck to add power it had been lighty raining. from a dig i knew i was gonna spin um. so i waited till about 20mph it still spun them it never did that before.

Also need to take off the top speed limiter...somtimes 104 just isnt enogh. And ajust the shift rpm's shifted about 4,800rpm when i manualy held it was pulling all the way to rev limiter in 2nd at about 5,500 rpm. so were gonna bump up both 1-2 and 2-3 300-500 rpm.

Havnt got into the fine tuning but i really like this programmer so far. and if you go in half with a buddy 200 bucks and you can write your own tunes and dont have to wait weeks or months to get them shiped to you!

Pretty fun program if you like doing stuff your self.

Cant wait to see what it does on masterbeattys truck...all the same mods as me with a 5.4L

we got it rolling alot faster tonight now that we know what were doing. took us longer to find the superchips tuner my buddy had in his truck than to use the sniper to write one.

Shifts alot firmer also holds them out longer than the superchips. The only diff is with the super chips he could hammer it at 40 and catch 1st now he has to be doing 35 and under. Moves pretty good. seems to like the sniper tune better than super chips. Now that we have these in were going to do some more fine tuning.

What are these triton motors good to spin stock. my stock rev limiter is 5,500 rpm. thats were my 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift are going to hold out to. i know 4,200rpm is max power and TQ *when i went to the dyno last year* so would it really be worth it to try and spin to 6,000??

Having lots of fun with this.

Pavment was dry today hammerd it from a stop and barked the tires

Very happy with this and anyone in the SE Michigan area buy a sniper bullet and will gladly tune your truck

Don't think the torque converter will like 6000 RPM. I'd probably keep it closer to 5300.
