Gryphon/Edge/VMP

Sorry guys, I am new to this tuner stuff. I am thinking of getting one for the wifes 05 Expy 5.4 EB, Which one would be the best. Remeber, ITS FOR THE WIFE's EXPY so it cannot be confusing or anything like that. We will be travelling alot, my daughter and her husband moved out to Bandera and its about 4 1/2 hour trip. I think I need to get better milage (performance would be nice to)

An Edge will be fine if the Expedition is stock. The Gryphon and VMP programmers are best when they have modifications to dictate over.

I disagree. The Edge is good if you're stock and want to have a towing tune. The Level 3 is good but lacking in downshifting quality. Iwould go with the Gryphon if I wanted the gauges, the VMP tuning if the gauges are not important. The custom tunes just shift so much better.

Go with a custom tune with the Gryphon. You'll be very happy you did. My truck runs/drives much better with Bill's handy work vs Fords or canned tunes.

I drive a 5.4 2005 Expedition with a Gryphon (no pod, sadly -- Edge doesn't make one, but there are alternatives!) and Bill's tunes. There's nothing I can put on here without sounding biased , so I will simply tell you about my experience.

We bought our Expy last July so that Bill could play with the tuning and be able to offer it to our customers. I could tell EVERY time he reverted back to stock and complained to him because the shifting from first through third gears was miserable. I remember telling him it was like driving through mud and I thought I could push it faster myself! He finally got the calibrations worked out, and right now, I am getting about 16mpg with the A/C on (even in the back). Without the A/C, I get about 17+. Last year when we drove from Atlanta to Orlando, we averaged between 19 & 20, I think. Just my . Hope it helps! (I don't think Edge offers an Evo for the Expedition...)

I really like my VMP tunes. Justin got them out to me fast and they drive perfect.

WOW, I though this was like plug and play stuff. Maybe just select a preset setting or something simple, remember it is the wifes Expy

It is. You can enter the program and never touch it again. I haven't touched mine in about 20,000 miles. Some people like to experiment and play with the tuner.

I don't play with mine either, except to change from tow tune to non-tow tune. So, it's really a pretty simple device to put on your vehicle, unless YOU make it complicated!

with the SCT/vmp tunes you can set a tune and put it away set it and forget it.

the evo is nice for the gauges but the only one i use on mine is the trans. other than that it could care less if it had gauges.

I use my gauges constantly as I drive, plus in one corner is the digital speedometer. The steering wheel blocks my view of the truck speedo. If one doesn't want the Gryphon monitor, you can unplug it and remove it as well.
