Anyone know how to format an X3 tuner and reload the stock file?

Apparently my stock file in my Xcal3 has become corrupt so i cannot use it anymore and my truck is stuck on troyers 87 octane towing tune. Troyer said sct will have to contact me to have me to rebuild my stock file and format my X3 then re-install the stock file.
Luckily i saved a copy of my stock file on my pc, so with no response from sct im wondering if anyone knows how i could format the unit and re-load my stock file and tunes.

Har250r, it sounds like you and I should talk. I am currently having the EXACT same problem with my X3. You probably saw my other post where I mention what happened to me.

Basically, I got my custom tunes from Troyer, followed all the instructions, and installed the 87 performance tune on my truck with no issues. Then I tried to change to the 87 towing tune and that's when the fun began.

Kept getting the "Error opening a file" message no matter what I did. Talked to Troyer (Anita) and she had me update the version on my X3 (even though it was already the most current version), re-format the X3, re-load the custom tunes, and try again. This took about an hour but didn't work. If you want to try this, there are instructions from Troyer which came with your custom tunes which explain pretty well how to do this.

Now I am in the same boat as you in that Anita has indicated that I will need to talk to SCT to get them to rebuild my corrupt stock file to fix this problem. I talked to someone from SCT this morning, and they wanted to remote connect into my computer to download the information from my X3 and go from there. Being that I am currently at my work computer instead of home computer, I told them I would call them back later and do it then. I am hoping to do that tomorrow morning.

Please keep us updated on what happens with you and I will do the same. Also, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Since this has happened to both of us in the last week, I expect it's going to happen to others...........

Yeah, I "think" mine is stock because when I went to intall the tow tune, I returned to stock first and that part seemed to work okay.

The bad thing about stock is that I already installed the 3.5" AF1, which you're not supposed to run with the stock tune. So last night I had to take out the AF1 and reinstall the stock intake.

On the way to work this morning, I got a P0174 code which is a bank 2 lean condition. Now I am concerned that I have a problem with the stock tune although I am "hoping" that the code might be because I didn't get the intake mated to the TB correctly. I am going to check that after work today.

All in all, sounds like it is giving me a few more headaches than you!

I did all the same things except I had to send my unit away to SCT and get them to fix it. I tried Troyer and SCT over the phone and got a new stock tune a couple of times, I reformated all that. In the end sending it away has fixed the problem. Now if I could only get a stock tune that works well I would be happy.

Well, I talked to SCT this morning and they "rebuilt" my stock file and loaded it back onto my X3. I plugged it into my truck and "returned to stock" and that seemed to work fine. Now I have to reload the custom tunes onto the X3 and try to install them again on my truck. Hopefully it works this time.

SCT did mention that they used to have to get people to send these devices back to them when there were problems, but now with some of the advances they have made they can do everything remotely.

Har205r, I would recommend that you get in touch with SCT and get them to rebuild your stock file. I know you said you saved a copy but it's hard to say whether that may be corrupt. They will use your read strategy and VIN # to rebuild your file, then walk you through the process of reformatting the X3 and downloading the stock file into it.

I have called into their tech support line 3 times now in the morning, and I have not had to wait more than 10 minutes to speak to a tech, so the wait time is not too bad.

Troyer told me that SCT would be calling me..... Ok what is the # to SCT? I will call them tomorrow morning before work.
Cool to know you got yours fixed, too bad you already had to put your stock intake back on. I may put my stock intake back on anyways since the AF1 "Drone" noise is so freaking loud and annoying when im towing up hills.

Did you guys download the new firmware of the Xcal3 before you tried loading your tunes? Just curious as it might of saved you some hassle. I don't know if you can download new firmware without getting your tune re-sent though. However that really wouldn't be a problem.

I had this same issue with my livewire. SCT rebuilt my stock file. Now I can go back to stock and I can use the SCT canned tune but my TP custom tunes won't work now. SCT is supposed to contacting TP to figure out WTF is going on and why I can't load tunes that worked perfectly before. I'll update when I get an answer.

Not totally sure it's all fixed yet...it appears the stock tune is fixed but I haven't tried to the Troyer tunes yet to see if they work. That will be tonight.

Your comment on the AF1 drone noise has gotten me a little worried. I have to say that the intake is louder than I expected it to be, but I only had it on for a couple of days so I didn't really get a chance to do a proper evaluation.

Very good thought. I did NOT download the new firmware before I loaded my tunes and Troyer seems to think that may have been the problem. However, their instructions CLEARLY state several times that if your firmware revision is 1.1.131 or newer, DON'T install the new firmware. Mine was 1.1.131 so I didn't. The direction I seem to be getting from both Troyer and SCT now is that I should have, so I think Troyer needs to change their instructions. Regardless, I am not too pleased with how this has worked out. Everyone has been very helpful, but I think they need to get their act together to make sure these problems don't happen.

I doubt it was the firmware since i did install the newest firmware. Hopefully you can get your custom tunes loaded. If i couldnt load my custom tunes i wouldnt bother getting my truck off the 87 tow tune it is currently stuck on as even that tune is way better than stock.

It looks like my problems seem to be fixed. Last night I reloaded the custom tunes back onto the X3 and downloaded them to my truck. I put the unit through its paces - installing a couple of different tunes and also returning it back to stock once just to make sure that it worked properly. All appeared to be fine. I reinstalled my AF1 and now I will hopefully get a chance to try out my tunes and see how they are.
