New to ford, need some help
Hey guys, I just bought a 2005 Ford FTX, (Tuscany Conversion). It has the following equiped and I was just wondering what kind of programer I could get to use to get more performance, and possibly better MPG. The truck currently says run it on 97 octane, but was wondering if I could get a tuner with an 87 performance tune and get the same kind of performance?
-5.4L 4x4 SuperCrew
-20" Rims, 305/55/R20 (33"x12.5") Toyo All-Terrain Tires
-3.5" Dual Exhaust
-Roush SuperCharger & Intake
-Hard Tonneau Cover
-- Also, how much of a change would I feel adding performance spark plugs and plug wires... more hp? better mpg?
---Pictures of the truck should be in my profile.

Since you have a supercharger, the best thing to do is find local dyno-tuners/specialists, get your truck on a dyno and get a proper tune.

Ummmm...... No! You are supercharged so you are definately not gonna be able to run 87octane or anywhere near. You can definately get tuned for increased performance and possibly better economy, but as said, not on 87.

I don't want to be a jerk and point out the obvious. But you bought the wrong vehicle if you want more performance, better mileage, and to do it all on 87 octane. No matter what you do, your 5.4L V8 pushing a big heavy truck, is not going to get you good mileage. Your truck was made for performance. Enjoy it. Drive it like hell and feel the power. If you really have to run 87 octane to save on fuel cost, and have better mileage because of fuel cost, then I suggest you join me when I go out to test drive hybrids and subcompacts.

I'll take that supercharger off your hands, then you could run 87-octane

Did the Tuscany conversion do away with the COPs? If not, you have NO plug wires, and, I sure would not use anything but Motorcraft plugs in that engine!
If you'd like some fun reading, go over to the engine forum and enjoy the posts about breaking plugs, ejecting plugs (supposedly fixed in our engines) and COPs that get killed by getting wet.
It's enough to make you wish you had never bought a Ford!

my advice is give Mike Troyer a call and see what he has to offer & in fairness you have other options, but give Mike a ring and see

97 octane? Since it's supercharged you'll need to run 91 or 93 octane, IMO.
Yes, get a Xcal2 or Xcal3. They are the best tuners out there, IMO. I'd highly suggest getting the truck on a dyno and do some data logging. After that contact a reputable tuner like VMP Tuning, TP, or Bama and let them create a mail order tune. It'd be a lot better than anything else unless one of those good companies are around you. Weazel has a Magnacharger and let a "local" dyno tuning shop tune his truck after I told him to let Justin at VMP Tuning tune it. Well he gets half the mileage he used to get, the tune is garbage, and just recently the transmission went out ...
