Having some problems with VMP tunes

I figured you guys know your stuff way better about the whole custom tuning thing, thats another reason for joining this forum. Anyway I picked up a used Xcal 2, and put in an order with Justin for 3 tunes 89 per, 91 per and 91 tow, I had just installed my AF1 3.5 intake and its throwing a lean code, anyway back to my question I tried installing the tunes and It puts my truck into Engine Fail safe mode, I emailed Justin about the problem and he asked me what the strategy # was and I gave it to him, but haven't herd anything back from him, and iv emailed him a couple times asking if he has figured my tunes out, its been 2 weeks with no reply. How bad is it to drive the truck while its running lean? Im just asking cause im not sure how long its gonna take for him to figure it out. Anyone else have this problem? Or am I the only one. thanks for the help!

If your truck is throwing a lean code, I wouldn't drive it!!!!!! My advice is until Justin figures out whats going on, I would return it back to stock and put the old intake back on.......Don't run it more than you have to when it's running lean!!!!

*****When you got your tunes from Justin, Did you ask him to program the tunes for the AF1 3.5??? You have to do this since the 3.5" AF1 flows more air thus leaning out the fuel/air mixture........When Justin knows the the bigger intake is there he accomidates for this in his tune.

If you didn't mention this to him, then that is probably what is going on!!!

Does he know you have an aftermarket intake? Did you order your tunes before or after the intake?

Yes I did let him know all the performance things I have done, the 3.5 AF1 intake and muffler delete for exhaust. I installed the Af1 thinking that I would be good to go with the tuning, but that hasn't been the case yet. So iv been driving it running lean for the last 2 weeks. Iv emailed Justin again, since I knew he was out of town. It sucks cause i haven't been able to take the truck out of town for fear of driving in lean condition.

Put the stock intake on in the mean time.

I ordered both at the same time and waited till I got them both, i started off with installing the AF1 intake, then When I went to install my Xcal2 with the custom tunes for the intake and exhaust it went into engine fail safe mode, so I put it back to stock. the only reason its running lean now is cause im running the 3.5 intake without any tuning. Im still waiting for him to figure out why when I download the tunner into the truck, that it puts it into engine fail safe mode.

Yeah, it's a little work, especially with having to work with the height of your truck.........I would drive the toyota in the meantime!!

........as much as these truck cost, I wouldn't risk any further damage. Driving the truck the last 2 weeks may not have hurt anything, but you won't really know until it's too late!!!!

As much as it may be a PITA to but pack on, I'd get the stock intake on ASAP.

You are runing the stock tune. It's probably best to run the stock intake.

Thanks for all the help, Im just gonna drive my little Toyota pickup until I get the whole tune thing figured out, I was just hoping someone had a similar experience with the engine fail safe mode, and what was causing it. Thanks again for the welcome!
