there is a small metal tag attached to a cover bolt on your rear diff, it will be stamped with the gear ratio and i think it states whether or not it has a lsd. IIRC mine says 3 55 L and i have a 355 with lsd

Speedo

tHE ONLY PROBLEM i HAVE WITH THAT MIKE IS THAT THESE GUYS ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE 04-05 AND UP F-150S SEEM TO BE PUTTING MILEAGE ON THE SPEEDO THAT IS NOT WARRENTED. I HAVE A LATE MODEL 04 SCREW AND NEVER RAN UP 18000 MILES A YEAR UNTIL THIS TRUCK.I BEEN NOTICING THE MISCALCULATIONS OF MY SPEED AS I GO PAST EVERY ONE OF THOSE SPEED TRAPS.AND I DONT HAVE A PROGRAMMER INSTALLED YET.

Should be another tag. Also look at your safety Compliance sticker in the drivers door jab, Find the 2 digit code, and someplace there is a list as to what it means.

It makes the gas mileage look better than it really is.

I wasn't bashing anyone from Edge or any other manufacture of Tuners, but it seemed odd that my friends 03 F150 with an Edge tuner had the correct ratio of 3.73 programmed into the VID block from the get go. I believe I was also talking to an inexperienced individual at Edge technical support while everyone else who was knowledgeable was out to lunch. It took him a while to give me answers to my questions as he was obviously looking at a computer screen for my answers. Believe me, I could tell.

All, in all, I'm happy with the results that the correct gear ratio and proper tire diameter are programmed in my Edge.

Glad you cleared things up by explaining the actual programming process Mike.
if his truck is an 03 it should have 3.55 gears in it. Im sure your truck's PCM has always been right it has just not been correct in the tuner which threw your speedo off. Its just because you didnt put the correct gears in the programer when you reprogramed the truck.

this has been discussed many times in probably 10 or more threads...if you dont touch tire size or gear ratio it will stay factory, but if you change one or even just LOOK at it you MUST change both.

edit just noticed this thread is very old :O
