Chip for 2002 F150 fx4
|
I was thinking about installing a chip in my 2002 f150 fx4. It has a 5.4L in it. I am also looking to install a exhaust on the beast. What kind of chips do they offer for Ford trucks, and what will they do for me. I am trying to increase Hp and also mpg by doing this. Is this something I can do myself and how much do these run. Is there a exhaust system specific for a chip installed.

SilverBulletFX4,
You probably hear alot of different opinions on chips but my experience with SuperChips has been nothing but good. I really like the extra shift firmness and better, harder shift points. You do have to run premium gas in it though (not a big deal, jus a few bucks more a month) You will certainly increase HP and TRQ and with the motor running more efficiently you will see a little better MPG with it. The chips can be kind of pricey (well over $200 for a new one) but they are one of best bang for the buck mods you can do. The install is very easy and you can certainly do it. As far as I've seen, read, etc.. you dont have to have a specific exhaust for a certain chip. They all work together just fine Actually if youre interested I am thinking of upgrading my truck and wont need my chip if that happens. I could make you a great deal on a chip thats only been used for less than 6 months

Chip
Thanks for the info, Ihave heard pretty good things about the super chips. I will definetly look into one of these bad boys. Does this affect the warranty at all? Thanks again for the info, I might take you up on the offer.

The whole thing about the warranty is that just by installing an aftermarket item 'they' (Ford) can not automatically void your warranty. They have to prove the mod caused a/the problem. However, since the chip overrides the factory programming you will need to remove the chip before taking it in for service (very easy to put in and out after the initial install) Go to superchips.com to get even more info. Your truck specific code for the chip is in the door jam of the passenger door. Its a 4 digit code. Let me know if youre serious about my chip 'cause I'll be listing it for sale soon. Hope this all helps

HI SilverBulletFX4,
If you'll take a look at our web site over at www.TroyerPerformance.com (click on "Shop" once the home page loads), and then take a look in the Superchips section by clicking on the "List by Vehicle Type" link and then selecting the FoMoCo applications, you can read up on the 3 different Superchips products that can be used on your vehicle. Their part#'s are 1100, 1300 & 1715, and we give full & thorough details on each there, you'll enjoy reading that info.
You'll want to take note of all the various features, and we give a very thorough description of what other kinds of modifications you can do and not need custom tuning in the chip, etc. For example, where you asked about the exhaust needed with a chip - there is no specific requirement in that regard, you can run anything from the stock exhaust to the best cat-back system, the Magnaflow. We carry all of that on our site too, as we specialize in these F-series vehicles. You'll also want to check our our Performance Packages section, as we have combo deals on everything from intake & chips to complete Stage 1 thru Stage 5 kits.
A nicely rounded package to get started with would be our Stage 1 kit, which gives you the Superchips tuning, the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system (all T304 stainless steel) and the best intake available, the Air Force One.
You can do your mods in stages, packages, combos, or just 1 at a time, whatever suits your needs & budget the best.
If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, give us a call & we'll be happy to advise you on this, and suggest the most cost-effective setup to get your performance where you want it and maintain the warranty of your vehicle.
By the way, DRK-NYT SCREW gave a very good response with regard to the issue of warranty in his post to you, he got right to the heart of the matter pretty well. If you want to go over that particular aspect in more detail, we can cover that as well to let you know your exact specific legal rights, etc., where to find more info on that, etc.
Good luck with your truck,
