Acetoned the emblems.

Acetoned the emblems.
Was in home depot the other day getting mineral spirits and saw the Acetone so this was another one of those sudden urge things. Plz read, I have a poll at the bottom.
Here is the badge before.
Here it is after.
Now the ones on the side look good all silver but the one on the tailgate looks stupid.
What color do you think I should paint the F-150 part? Black? Wedgewood blue? Hot Pink?

I would say black, or blue. Here's my tailgate emblem. I moved the triton v8 emblem to the back, and painted in the letters. The F-150 part I just painted black. Sorry for not posting the actual pic, good old FTW won't let you post pics anymore.,,,,,98

ON my side emblems I masked and painted, VERY labor intensive!! I took the somewhat less labor intensive route for the tailgate emblem. I acetoned the whole emblem clean, then shot the whole emblem black again. After that I used a Qtip soaked in acetone to take off all the surrounding areas. It worked easier than masking around each individual letter. Just keep the Qtip against the surface the whole time, and you'll be done sooner than you think Well, not really. It is much easier than trying to mask them, hehe. You can lightly sand the tops of the letters if you want, but I have had mine done for a year now with no peeling yet. Oh, almost forgot! Around the letters, keep the Qtip at a 90degree angle to the emblem. It leaves a clean shiny edge on the the letters that way. Good luck!,,,,98

i have a 98 as well. unfortunatly we were not blessed with emblems that are able to be acetoned. the black paint was baked on to our emblems and i am almost positive it is not removable. but if you go to your local dealer and pick up some new emblems, the black paint comes right off, with no problem at all. they run about 15 bucks each, and IMO worth it! acetone can be found at home depot in the paint section.
as for getting the emblems off, i waited until yesterday, the weather was sunny and 93 degrees...those suckers came right off! didn't even need a hair dryer!
