I am sure it made the scratches less noticeable with new somewhat smaller scratches.
- This is not the same thing as Optimum Poly Tech Hyper Compound.

As 2stroked posted, this is something you should be very careful with, and will require another round ( or two or three ) of defect removal with polish.

Is this what your clear coat looks like ?

Yes Steve, that's the stuff that scares the crap out of me. It's most likely sand and water mixed in a can - and it behaves exactly like that on paint! Probably the absolute worst product for anybody not experienced in detailing to use on something they even remotely like. Come to think of it, I wouldn't use it on anything other than a Delorean.

Some trucks got defective paint. Even newer trucks had some defects like crows feet craking real bad in the paint.

Agreed, and no amount of rubbing will fix it.

its by meguiar's. And I'll take a photo really quick. It has some water spots on it so it's not 100% clean. Name: 15999A98-090C-485B-AF8B-239D4BAE0BD2_zpsp5h9iwuz.jpg

Yes, that looks like the dreaded "crows feet".

Megs Ultimate Compound is made for modern clear coat paint.
It's quite a bit different than compound you'd use on grandpa's Oldsmobile.

Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound was made for rubbing turtle shells out, but PETA deemed it "cruel and inhumane punishment."

I get that sinking feeling when I see a post with the words 'rubbing compound'.
- Thankfully it was just used as a generic term.

The only thing I have ever used that on ( back in the 80s ) was rusty tools in the shed and a bumper on a 1972 Cadi that had surface rust.

I don't know how you could keep track of the ones that were already done in those holding ponds on the north side of the island at the "farm".

Then again after 2003/2004 I think those holding ponds might have been emptied out into the ocean.

OK ( wipe sweat off brow ). I just got a sinking feeling that something bad had happened.

You are correct, that is cracking / crows feet and a repaint is the only thing to cure it.

Dad has my 2001 in YN silver, and it does not have that issue, then again I am pretty far north so we only get direct sun for 20 days out of the year before we start on the slide down to darkness.
- It is not like TX, AZ or FL beatings.

Sadly, something bad has happened (Bad Ford primer) but it's not your fault.
I really don't feel climate is a factor I'm in sunny south Florida.

So it's the primer that caused the checking? And does your Harley truck have it? ( assuming it doesn't Beacause it is most likely garage kept )

My old 2001 does not have this problem today.
- Nothing to be my ( or dad's ) fault.
It will be 15 years old in May, and dad leaves it outside year round since he got it in 2006. It has 15 years of getting sprayed with salt 3+ months a year.

I don't know if it is primer problem or not.
Your 2003 is fine, Black KingRanch's 2003 has the issue.
I don't know if the KR to HD is the same black paint code. Mfgr date would also offer some insight into this.
