Chrome clad wheel cleaning?

Just pick up a set of OE f150 chrome clad wheels. They're the basic looking ones that came on some stx and xlt models.

Anyway, they're kind of hazy. I've never owned chrome clad rims so I'm unsure what to use to get the life back into them.

Was going to first take a clay bar to them and any recommendations for after that would be great.

They don't need to be perfect. Just decent. Thanks!

Good response. I just walked inside from doing that exact same thing! It took off all the rough looking spots and stains. Put a coat of liquid glass on and they look brand new. Better than I was expecting!

I went to an FX4 aluminum wheel so I didn't have to clean as much. Although the clad chrome look good when they are clean.

I'm going from the xl painted steel wheels that have to be re painted yearly or they show rust. So anything is better than that. Plus, two of my original rims are somehow out of round. Main reason I bought this chrome clad set. I've read the chrome clad wheels hold up pretty well.

I'm going to por 15 the inside and edges of the wheels before I have my tires installed on them.

Thanks, I'll check that out if I still find they're still dull. No corrosion though, they're chrome clad, aka plastic.

Those have to be treated just like paint. I don't think the Brillo was a very good idea.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind for the future. I probably put light scuffs in them, however, they look 100x better than before. They're used off an 07.

I'll just clay them yearly and coat them with liquid glass like I'd do with my paint from now on.

walmart has consumer line of meguiars wheel cleaner/brightner. Hot rims they had at one time; just look through the lineup and see what they have.

I'll check that stuff out at Walmart. I cleaned them up a bit, still have a little haze. But I'll try something else on them later when I can. They were pretty dirty, so I can't complain how they currently look.

I cleaned my chrome 18" Lariats last summer with my Borla Exhaust Polish. Felt a little hesitant to do so as the wheel should be clear coated, but the polish worked great.

PS, anyone want to buy them?

That's why I said they need to be treated like paint.

Try Glass Cleaner and OO Steel Wool...or Soapy water with OO Steel Wool...

I used to use OO Steel Wool on Chrome Bumpers to remove over Spray when I worked in a body shop...it's more gentle than brillo or SOS...then a good wax...
