Solution For Horrendous Water Spots/ Etching

Hello, I figured since I've been reading and learning things from this great forum for some time now, that it was time for me to finally contribute something.
As you can see from the pictures, my trucks windows have severe etching and water spots. I have tried all kinds of cleaners, even vinegar.
Finally I got around to trying 0000 steel wool along with 3M's "Perfect It II" compound. I also masked off all window trim to keep the compound away from it, and to make sure it didn't get scuffed by the steel wool
I folded the steel wool pad in half and applied a generous amount of compound, beginning to work along the edges, then an angled pattern one direction, overlapping and working downwards, every few minutes I would wipe the window clean with a dry microfiber cloth to check my progress.
Once I finished all the windows, I gave them a final cleaning with Stoner Invisible Glass. Then stood back and admired my work.
Hopefully this will help some of you ! _ Jeff
here are the pictures

Thankyou ! and no, no scratching whatsoever. Although, I wouldn't recommend using any thing coarse-er then 0000 steel wool, better to err on the safe side then have scratches to worry about

thanks ! and OH ! I also recommend putting masking tape around all window trim , to keep the compound away from it , AND so the steel wool doesnt scuff it !

oh yeah I had to do this on my windows. I finished off the process by buffing with a wool pad on low RPMs

Excellent Job!

I've dealt with the same problem a few times.
Solved 'em all by using Rain-X X-treme Clean.
Think of it as a polishing compound for glass.
Works well applied both by hand or machine.

I follow it up with Sprayway glass cleaner.

I had the same problem untill I used metal cleaner from metalwax.com, and topped off with topwax. Glass is now crystal clear and slick as a babys bottom.

Good to know this stuff. I've tried steel wool/water once on my Galaxie's rear glass and it worked nicely. Did the edges only where rust, water stains were bad. Now I want to do all the glass!!
