Question ? bout OEM stock air filter

Will using simple green diluted in water ruin the cloth air filter......What will happen if i do and also how long can I drive with a bad air filter till it causes problems. I know these a'rent the smartest questions but I have a ridiculous story behind this question and I need some of ya'll opinions.

I don't know about the air filter, but why would you want to wait till it causes problems.
Honestly, I would just go out and get a new filter. It isn't too expensive....

$13 for a stock Motorcraft filter.

But I think a wet filter will get you to the nearest AutoZone or Wal-Mart, just don't recommend running it wet for too long

Why are Fram filters no good?
Also, I haven't heard of cloth filters? Does he mean a K&N?

Maybe. They're made of cotton gauze, right? If so, I'd guess using Simple green shouldn't be too bad, if you are cleaning/prepping it for new oil. You'd just be degreasing it, which is what the soap in a filter kit does. Just don't think it's a good idea to run it unoiled, since the oil is what traps the dirt, right?

To me, Fram has always equated to cheap and sketchy. At least for oil filters, why bother with Fram when you can get OEM for same price.

I have a silly question. Why is this in the Care and Detailing sections and not the correct forum for this?
