How to go about cleaning up engine on my 2000?

i hear people saying i will have problems with the COPS getting wet and all, so whats the best way to approach this. my truck gets dusty all week long from work and the engines dirty, and ive been wantign to shine it up a bit. what are techniques etc i should use? ive seen a truck JollyGreenGiant did before and it looked awsome. looked for the thread but guess i missed it. any help would be cool. Thanks

If you're worried about the coils getting wet just cover em somehow, tape or a baggie or both. I like using a gallon sprayer when cleaning engines as it's easier to control than a hose.
