need help please! shift knob

anybody know how to get a shift knob off of an 08 stick? i know they usually just unscrew or come straight off by putting a wrench under it and hitting the wrench with a hammer or rubber mallet. my 04's came straight of by hitting it. the shift knob has nothing to take off on the end so there is no screw on the top to hold it on, i tried vice grips to turn it but just messed up the vinyl on it and i tried hitting it off from the bottom with no movement. any ideas?
