Help! Severe Rust on Chrome Rims!

And yes, I've tried searching. Replies from related threads werent very helpful But at topic, I have 16" chrome American Racing rims and I have rust build-up by the lugs and in the first dip of the bowl. I have applied TurtleWax rust remover and it took off most of the surface stuff, but the blackish orange deep stuff ruins my shine. Someone told me to use 2000 grit, but that would KILL my chrome? Any help? thanks!

Something to try.... Take the wheel off the truck. Lay it on an outdoor table. Find a small stiff brush (maybe find a small stiff brissel'd paint brush and cut the brissels REALLY short.) Then use a lot of dawn water and just scrub and scrub.

Depending on how severe the rust is, that may work.

Make a ball out of a sheet of alum foil and scrub it with that. Sounds odd but it has worked for me. Just so you dont think I am pulling your leg

Try "Never Dull"...it's a chemical saturated wadding. A lot of rubbing but let the chemicals do most the work so no major elbow grease. Of course without a pic, you may need a grinding wheel?

Magic Eraser+Bar Keeps Friend+Windex. This worked for me on my old 92 Ranger that had AR rims. Dont do it every time, only when absolutley necessary. I sprinkle the BKR on the eraser and than give it 10-12 sprays of Windex and the rust comes off without much scrubbing.

most rim manufacturers offer a lifetime finish warranty as long as it isn't deemed your fault!

.

I second the use of a clay bar, that will work best.
