Any Old School Knowledge Here? One-Step Paint Care

OK...my Retrax tonneau cover came with a one step glossy black paint. After about a year, the rails could use some love, but being that I'm from a base coat, clear coat world, what's the best way to tackle the one step ole' school paint job care? Would products designed for clear coat work here? Or should I stick with something like a mild rubbing compound and then hit it w/ a good coat of wax?

Thanks for any tips,

Tony

I'm assuming you're talking about 'single-stage' paint?

Tony,

Most products today are "safe for all finishes". However, I'm not familar with the type of paint on that tonneau cover? Is it automotive grade paint, or other? I would check with the manufacturer to see what they recommend.

It is an automotive grade paint, but I'm guessing like RP stated, it's a "one-stage" paint, very similar to how a lot of the older vehicles pre-1990 came from the factory. Check out the gallery photos to see what I'm talking about.
