Question Whats a good polish to use before waxing?

1997 F150,Dark Blue
Any recommendations? I saw some 3M Finish Restorer in Wal-Mart; any opinions on this? How about any products from Meguires? Is that Zymol cleaner polish good?

BlueOvalFitter,

It depends on the condition of your paint. Does it just need a light cleaning? Does it have light swirls, or more severe swirls?

#9 seems to be the favorite among most w/ light surface scratches. Use yellow pad on 4 or so on the PC

Translation...

Use MaGuire's #9 product, with a yellow application pad (part of accessory kit for -> ), Porter Cable buffer, set on #4 speed?

I think that might be it.

But seriously, asking this question is like asking what is the best Cabernet...everyone has their own opinion.

I currently use: Clay bar...MaGuire's NXT, followed by their #26 carnubia wax.

Rockpick, however, is the God of detailing...do a search on this topic and you'll be reading for days.

Yep, it does.

First, it sounds like you want to pick the products up locally. That being the case, the product that poolvibe point out............ the Meguiars #9 Swirl Mark Remover might be a good place to start. It sounds like you don't have a PC (Porter Cable buffer), so you'll be doing the polishing by hand. Therefore, the #9 is about as abrasive as you can get by hand with decent results.

The 3M Finish Restorer is an all-in-one product. (cleans/polishes/protects). It's actually pretty decent stuff. However, it won't do much for the swirls, but it will clean the paint nicely. It is also a bit "finicky" to work with. If you want to try a good all-in-one product that can be found locally, I would suggest Meguiar's ColorX.

Hope this helps.

Blue Oval,

Sorry that was my F150 online jive talk.

BTW Caberet is a wine, I think if you clayed and made a few passes w/ #9 and topped with sealant you would be pleased.

Ok honky mo fo

BlueOvalFitter,

First, you're welcome!

Keep in mind, that the ColorX will not remove/hide swirls like the #9.

As for the wax.............. sure, for a wax that you can pick up locally, Meguiar's NXT, or #26 (or #26 over the NXT) would look great.

Have fun.

Interesting!

There are so many "up-start" car care companies anymore, that it's hard to keep up with them.

Have you used any of their products?
