Hi all, I sent an email to GM Canada asking the following:
"I am shopping for a new truck. I like the GMC 2500 HD. I am trying to find out the towing capacity of the 6.0 L engine with the different axle ratios of 3.73 and 4.10 in 2WD. I can't find any info on this anywhere on your web site or in your brouchures. When I build online I get the same 9200 capacity whether I use the 3.73 or the 4.10. I need the true amount to determine whether your truck will tow the 5th wheel I want. I have tried the US site and the commercial truck sites without any luck. I am hoping that you can answer my question."
You will not belive the response I got:
"Thank you for your e-mail.
As per your inquiry, we are unable to provide towing capacity without a Vehicle Identification Number.
We suggest you speak to a sales representative at your local GM dealership for further assistance. Our dealership sales staff is familiar with the various options, equipment and configurations offered in our product lines, and they are in the best position to assist you in selecting a vehicle that meets your personal requirements.
We appreciate your interest, and thank you for contacting General Motors of Canada Limited. Please visit our website again!"
It looks like I have to buy the truck before they can tell me what axle ratio is best. I heard on the news that GM lost 34 billion dollars in the first half of 2007. Now you know why! A clear cut case of passing the buck.
Yeah, I can visit a dealer, but I will be under pressure to buy and I am shopping. Leaning more towards the F250 but won't be buying until 2009.
The real question is what did you expect. GM isn't passing the buck, they want you to visit a dealer to look at the truck and maybe test drive it. They know that's when most people decide to buy. I haven't tried it but I'm sure Ford would do the same thing.

As I mentioned in the thread, I know they want me to visit the dealer. My point is that they can't give anyone an axle ratio trailer capacity on their trucks unless they have a VIN.
You can't provide a VIN unless you buy a truck.
Ford provides the towing capacity on all their axle ratios, for both manual and automatic trans. GM does provide these figures, but only for the 1500 series. Why not for all vehicles? As a prospective buyer, wouldn't you want all the figures at your disposal BEFORE going into a dealer to buy?
I have caught more than one salesman who has admitted that they don't know the vehicle they are supposed to be trying to sell. I have walked out of dealerships because the salesperson won't get off their butt and find out the answers to questions. One salesman told me to look it up on the internet site! Which I did, hence the email to GMC Canada, with the stupid response.

Its a processing centre. They are meant to handle general FAQ questions. They are not trained techicians. Most of the time their soft ware is not set up to give tech specs.
