3,598 men killed and 7,104 wounded

...WWI, Vimy Ridge, the first battle where Canada fought as a nation 90th anniversary. Sure puts things in perspective, yesterday 6 more of our soldiers were killed in Aghanistan.

Two years ago my wife and I visited Vimy Ridge in France, if you ever get the chance make sure you don't pass it up. Walk the trenches only a stones throw from German lines, walk through the underground tunnels that go for 25miles or more. The craters still exist in the ground from all of the artillery shells, and most importantly, walk by the thousands of crosses with maple leafs on them before we even had our own flag. It is truly amazing.

Thank a vet the next time you see one, I know I will.

Crazy how wars of the past were on such MASSIVE scales in comparison to those fought today. Canada lost roughly the same number of men in a single battle as the allies have lost in Iraq in a war that has lasted longer than WWII completely.

Pretty impressive that we can be so efficient now, compared to then. But apparently even that isn't enough for the pacifists...
