warranty

Hi Fellas;
I tried in another heading with no response.Living in Ontario,do we have legislation by law that protects the purchaser of a new vehicle's warranty
"if" the owner keeps all documents and has the vihicle serviced elsewhere?
My understanding is the service managers receive a salary plus a percentage on each item they replace on your vehicle,which at certain Kilometer readings
escalates the service charges when the items are okay at the time of inspection and/or is done by sequence of doing the regular maintanence every 5oookil.
Does anyone out there have any answers to this?

First off, welcome to the board.

You are right, we are protected in Ontario. I have taken my truck into other repair facilities (Not Ford) to have normal work done. example being lubes at Mr. Lube, and specialty shops for mufflers, glass, etc. I have the extended Premium Warranty, and everytime I am in a Ford Dealer for service, I tell them that I have the extended warranty. Sometimes they don't check and you have to remind them. I have never had any trouble in this regards, and I don't stick to the normal maintenance schedules. I worked for the Old City of Scarborough in the maintenance garage with a fleet of over 450 trucks, both gas and diesel, and the opinion of the Garage Superintendent at the time was "If it ain't broke, Don't fix it!"

I follow a maintenance schedule of every 6000 km a lube/oil/filter. I change the oil filter EVERY time. I adhere to the transmission recommendations and recently had it checked at 50,000 km. I don't bother with tire rotation and I was told it can be a waste of time. We never did it in the fleet. I have had a road force balance on my truck to keep the tires balanced.

When I bought my truck, the salesman walked me through the maintenance schedule as part of the selling process. I listened politely, but I follow my own schedule. I tow a trailer and have a boat loader on my truck, and I travel in very dusty areas of Ontario on vacation, sometimes down logging roads. I have the K & N Air Filter, and if you don't have one I highly recommend it. I don't have the full system, only the filter. I just cleaned it after summer driving as it was dirty, and my gas mileage actually improved. As you can see by my signature, I have a 2001 4 x 2. I have never had any problems with it.

Despite what Ford says, you really can't void the warranty by having it serviced elsewhere. What happens is, you aren't covered if a piece of equipment is replaced that would have been covered by warranty if you had taken it into a Ford dealer for service. And I have had this happen as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Ford also has a consumer complaint procedure if you feel you have been dealt with un-fairly. Or you can make a formal complaint to the Government offices of the Consumer and Corporate Affairs ombudsman.

I hope this settles you mind. We have very good protection here in Ontario.

Good Luck
