Sad day for Canada
|
I was working in Whitecourt yesterday when I heard the breaking news over the radio about what was happening in Mayerthorpe(25 miles away). At the time, nobody knew of the deaths, and it wasn't til I got home when I heard the news. Very sad day for the community and country. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the fallen members families and friends. This guy(shooter), should have been put away a long time ago considering his priors, but our idiotic so-called justice system just keeps letting things like this happen, and then Anne McLellan talks about tougher laws after the fact. Typical political ineptitude.

Exactly what I thought. Our police out risking their lives to catch criminals, and the courts let them walk, or slap their hands. Makes me sick. But if I don't register my guns, I'm a criminal.

oh yeah.....that gun registry is REAL good in this case...
I wonder....was his gun registered????
Cuz I mean if it was....it should have prevented these killings?????
The Gun Registry is a major FARCE!!!!
It will never save lives.....

Ummmm, let's not forget the RCMP are just as much to blame for what happened. The four that were killed were ROOKIES. They were sent in first to secure the scene? At least one of them was unarmed! Who the hell authorized that? These guys should have been the last ones in there. The RC's knew how dangerous this guy was, they should have been better prepared.

Yeah, the CO's maybe should've known better and have accounted for Rozco's whereabouts B4 posting the rookies to the site, but let's not forget, the original reason they went out there was to help a bailiff repossess a pick-up and that's when they stumbled upon the small-time grow op and stolen truck parts. These guys did not deserve what they got and did not have a chance against a semi, even possibly fully automatic assault rifle. I'm sure somebody will be held accountable, but, ultimately it was our lax so-called justice system and the politicians we put in power that make the laws that is more accountable IMO.
I have to go to Whitecourt and Mayerthorpe tomorrow for a couple jobs, I can hardly wait

this is truly sad.
never forget the thin blue line that separates the vile elements of society from inflicting harm on our mothers and daughters.

It's not forgotten, but it is obvious that there were some huge mistakes made by the RCMP that contributed to the death of those four mounties. Rookies had no business being there, that whole situation should have been left to the experienced officers that know how to handle things when they go bad.
Don't get me wrong, it's a sad time for Canada and my heart goes out to the families of those four R.C's.
What's truly sad is that because the RCMP investigate themselves, we will never know what really went wrong that day.

same people that usually investigate government screw-ups. They cover up the findings in the name of national security.

Agreed. If Chretien was still in power, the whole adscam thing would be turned over to the R.C.M.P never to be heard from again....

Yeah, that's for sure. It's amazing how Paul Martin continues to insult the intellegence of Canadians by saying that he had no knowledge of cash coming or going to/from adscam. Even though he was finance minister during the whole thing. It was his job to know where EVERY penny was going to or coming in from.

and now Harper is contemplating the forcing of an election.
NOOOOOO.
Not yet. Hold off and let some more dirty laundry out first. One man has implicated Chretien as having direct involvement. We need a couple more people to "out" Chretien so that there is absolutely no doubt he is guilty.
THEN we can call an election. I would like to see a Conservative minority with the NDP as kingmakers. The PCs will do whats right economically while the NDP will keep them honest (I don't particulary like the NDP and think Jack Layton is a snake but they do have some members that could pass for clergy they are so honest)

I agre 100%! Let the inquiry go to make sure that as many of the sordid details are revealed as possible. The only drawback to this though is that it may anger Canadians to the point of handing the Conservatives a majority. Then we would be in for it! It's amazing how much of a clown Jack Layton comes across as everytime he speaks. He should just show up at public events with a red press on nose and full clown makeup. Then whenever someone disagrees with him, he could just spray them with a seltzer bottle!

what do you expect from a municipal politician from downtown Toronto.
They need to dust of Ed Broadbent. Make him leader again.

Those were the days! No NDP leader ever came closer to taking power. We will very likely never see that kind of leadership from this party again.
