What to buy opinion

Ok, I have a 2000 F-150 wit the 5.4 V8. got a new job that is an hours drive from home. I am looking to purchase a used 4 cylinder to save the gas on the long daily drive. I prefer to stay with Ford, it's a family thing. I have looked at the escort z2x, and a probe both fairly old. I don't want to spend but a few thousand on the car, the goal here is to save money.

What would you drive if you had to drive an hour to work?

Small cars beat me to death and most are too noisy for me. Ithat is why I drive my truck, my drive is about 45 min each way. I get about 17 mpg and I am happy with that. One thing you have to consider, the cost of the vehicle, the repairs on an older vehicle, plus the insurance, etc. may more than offset your fuel savings.

I have to drive on a freeway part of the way, I just value my comfort and safty, plus, I doubt it would really save in the long run.
