2004 Ford F-150 front brakes

I am about to change the pads on my front brakes after 40,000 miles. I noticed I have a lip about 0.150 wide on only the outside edges of both left and right rotors. I felt the inside rotors and there is no lip. Is this normal? Seems like the piston will have to be compressed quite a bit just to get the caliper off.
Just wondering if I need new rotors too.
Thanks for the help.
Dan

If the rotors are below minimum thickness, then you need new ones. Otherwise, you can get them resurfaced and put on new pads.

Just get new rotors. It's not worth the hassle getting your current ones turned: post-cut they will be thinner and prone to warpage. With new rotors, your ready to go when replacing pads and no finding another vehicle and running around town getting the rotors turned.
