I am new here and wondered if all liners were created pretty much equal? I don't wanna spray on liner. Are there any good quality liners for my 2006 F150 under $300? Do they all pretty much fit the same?
No they are not all created equal. There are plastic liners, rubber bed mats and for under $300, I would get a BedRug. There is a guy on another forum that sells them for $275 shipped. I will be getting mine soon. chek them out at bedrug.com
In drop-ins, there are cheaper lightweight materials, heavyweights, "skid-resistant", etc. By the way, the skid-resistant ones are really no better than the cheap ones.
Check out the DualComp liner. I ended up looking for a job here after I stumbled across the product - it impressed me so much that I searched out the owner. It installs, has hard sidewalls for dent protection and a removable rubber floor for the best skid resistance available!
Thanks for the input so far. I looked online at the bedrug and it seems to be pretty well made. Anyone else have any thoughts on the bedrug? I looked at it before I read up on it and I was sure that it looked as though it wouldn't hold up. Might seriously consider it. The dual comp also looks appealing but I believe they are asking more for the dual comp.
Pricewise, BedRug and DualComp are about the same. My experience with a BedRug wasn't good, had it torn and stained in no time - HOWEVER, I am also a lot rougher on trucks than many people.
It still comes back to how you use your truck - if you do a lot of hauling/loading, I would avoid the BedRUg. Some guys will tell you it's tougher than nails, but it is still foam backed carpeting held in place with velcro. For a guy who's toughest use is camping, it makes sense.
I could spend days telling you how much I like the DualComp liners, but if you do a forum search you'll see I've bored these guys with it a time or two!
Stay away from the Penda Skid Resistor. Had one in my truck for 24 hours.. couldn't get it out fast enough.
Worst fitting, most overpriced piece of junk I've ever seen. Even called the company and complained about it. The thing literally flapped like a dishrag in the wind.
I went with the dealer installed Ford aftermarket unit. Made by Duraliner, cheaper, fit 1000 times better, no wasted space in the corners, no gigantic holes with cheap covers (that didn't fit) to reach your buried tiedowns, and there was no comparison in the overall quality. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is not always necessarilly true.
I too did not want the spray-in liner so I got a Bedrug. For moving household items it is great. For moving mulch, yard supplies, etc. I don't like it. I am considering getting the Line-X liner now. More money, but in the long run it will be worth it.

I've got a PermaTech spray-in liner; from what I've seen, it's pretty similar to the Rhino liner. What I like about it is that it's a bit rubber, which means that stuff doesn't slide around much. It seems pretty tough; I hauled several loads of firewood (pretty good size pieces, 3-4' long and quite heavy) and it held up well, even when wood was tossed in onto the bed.
What I don't like about it is that it's hard to slide heavy objects in and out of the bed, because the liner is so grabby. I'll probably keep a sheet of masonite around for things that need to slide on the bed.
So many people have good things to say about Line-X that, if there were a nearby dealer, I'd have seriously considered it. It sounds like it's a bit slicker, though, and less rubbery.
Yes, LINE-X is harder than the 100% polyurethane brands (like Rhino). But, LINE-X dealers can add extra texture for more grip if that's what you want. Some people don't want anything to slide at all, others WANT to be able to slide things with a little effort. I've sprayed extra texture for Fire Dept trucks (so their boots really grab) and I've sprayed no texture on (for example) bumper inserts.
I've never found a spray-on stronger than LINE-X. If you find one, let me know. I have a spreadsheet of technical data on about 15 brands so far.
This is a "before" pic, but we applied extra heavy texture where the firemen step. (An employee is standing inside the water tank, where we also applied LINE-X.)
Here, we applied no texture to the grill and black bumper inserts.

I actually went and looked at the bedrug on display locally and it seems pretty well made. I expected it to be a little thicker but nonetheless it seemed nice. It definitely doesn't absorb water that is for sure. Definitely nice if you had to crawl around much on the bed. How long can you expect a spray on like line-x to last? I have heard occasional complaints about the others!--just wonderin!

At the risk of sounding like a smart a$$, but how long will a truck last? Depends on how you use it, very application specific. When I had a Line-X, it lasted less than a year. That was longer than any other spray-in... but I'm rougher than most by the sound of things.
Even "last" is a tough one to deal with, what do you consider last? No fade in direct sun? 3 months for their basic product. No scuffs or scrapes? What are you loading, how frequently, and how careful are you?
Under a tonneau with no load it will look perfect forever. Haul a few bare engine blocks without restraining them and drive like you stole it... maybe a couple minutes.
The question is impossible to answer. Although you'll always get several people saying it will last forever, no matter what you do.
