Question F150 SC factory liner problem

I purchased a Ford Bedliner for my 2001 F150 Supercrew when I purchased it new. At delivery, I noticed the side panels were bowed in a bit. I figured it was defective since the top rails did not overlap over the side panels allowing them to bow in. When I took it back to the dealer, they told me this is normal and put some double sided tape on the liner to hold it to the side. Well, this lasted about four months and now it bows in on one side again. Is this really normal as the dealer says it is? Has anyone else had this trouble?

That's what cheap plastic drop-ins do. They warp, bow, squeak, and rattle to no end, not to mention the damage they do underneath them where you can't see it! Both on my last two trucks have had spray-ins, and I'll NEVER EVER put a plastic line in one again! The first was a duraliner, and the "springs" they used to hold it in place rubbed the paint off and gave rust a HUGE foothold in the bed. The second was in my 97 sprayed by Ziebart... two part epoxy, hard as a rock! Shiny as all get-out too! The one in my 00 is a line-x. Feels a bit softer to the touch, and isn't as tough on the knees as the original Ziebart was, but is DEFINATELY just as tough. I've hauled sumber, camping supplies, and bounced a BBQ grille around in the bed on the sand dunes and the worst thing that's happened to it is that the mud from when I was swamp-trompin' in Ohio a few months back was a pain to get off! Other than that, it's great!

Thumbs down Not Normal

I'm not exactly sure of what you are describing, but my liner (Ford/Duraliner) fits beautifully. I know that there was a problem with some of the earlier liners not being tall enough for the SCrew. Look at some of the older posts, I think there were some discussions about it before. But my rails fit over top of the liner.

I believe there are at least two different bedliners offered by ford, one is lower prices and not as heavy (thick). The higher end liner fares much better with heat and age. The inexpensive aftermarket liners suffer from bowing and other heat related distortions.

I have a Line-x sprayed in, my second truck to have this in, will always have sprayed in. Line-X has a life time guarantee, you chip or damage it, they will fix it. It is also much less slippery in the morning when the dew is on it and you won't bust you a......

Well, that's different

When i put a bed liner in, i put a spray in bedliner in, then i put a plastic liner in, so that if i spill paint, tar, or something else, i can just remove the bedliner & get a new one (trust me, when you spil a 5 gallon pail of tar, you dont want to keep that bedliner).

Jasad,

I made the same mistake with my Scab! I purchased the bedliner ($175.00) when I picked up the truck . . . it was installed on 08/30/00 at 359 miles. On 12/06/00 at 3824, after much complaining on my part, the delaer replaced it with a Ford Duraliner!

Totally different liners! I also installed the 'Paint Saver Pad' when the new liner was put in, and documented the pairt damage to the bed. The bed, at least around the tailgate and tail end of the bed, will be repainted the first time I can leave it with them for a day.

Overall, the dealer was pretty good about replacing it, I put everything in writing (I can e-mail you a copy if you think you could use it) and once convinced that I was seriously disappointed with the liner they came around and replaced it with no further hassele.

I've got a Rugged Liner drop in and it too bowed a bit on the sides. Without a solid bead or some additional reinforcement, the plastic sides are bound to bow some. It's just the nature of plastic and not so much a defect.

Mine was installed by the dealer to cover the scratched up bed (I bought the truck used). Anyway, it's screwed in along the bottom edge in back, so I just found some stainless screws, drilled a small pilot hole, sprayed some primer in the hole and screwed the sides in. Nice and tight now.

I really like the idea of using both a spray in and the drop in. A pad underneath makes sense too. I've not gotten enough motivation to remove mine to see what is really underneath it yet, but plan to at some point.

Dealer replaced it

When I started this thread I described the problem where the top ridge of the liner was bowed in. This was a bad problem since leaves and debris could then fall between the liner and the wall of the truck bed. When I took it back a second time to the dealer and complained about their double tape job failing to address the issue, they replaced it with no argument. The replacement liner fits nicely under the bed caps. I think they must have cut too much off the liner the first time they installed it. At least they replaced it this time so I am happy for now. With all the messages on this board I dread to think of the rust that may be developing under the liner. One day I will get brave and inspect it.
