Most secure bed cover?

Hey, new to the forum and a new F150 owner. Just bought a 2011 FX4 supercrew w/5.5 bed and I'm looking for some feedback regarding the security of bed covers. What are the toughest covers out there to keep the bad guys out? I realize nothing will keep them out out, but what are the toughest covers to crack? Thanks

I'm going with something like the Roll'n'Lok covers. Corrugated aluminum cover that rolls into a "cannister" at the head of the truck bed. A simple knife won't just cut through it. More secure than the Truxedo cover I had ... had until some no-good thief sliced it in half.

X2 ^^^ A lot of the retractables will be the best security but if your on a budget then anything out of sight is out of mind.. You should look them up on youtube and watch the videos that roll'n'lock has to offer.

I just scooped one up from craigslist.

I am by no means arguing the point, but why is a roll top more secure than a fiberglass hard top?

That's a tough question to answer.

You can take a hammer and smash a fiberglass cover.

If I had to pick one....I would say....DiamondBack. All aluminum, the lock rods slide underneath the truck's rails. I'm thinking it would be pretty hard to break into that cover.

Otherwise, aluminum retractable covers like Roll-N-Lock, TruckCoversUSA, etc. would be pretty secure also.

Even the hard plastic one's can be broken into by prying with a crow bar to the back of the cover.

If you keep high value items in the bed then a retractable is the way to go. They may not be the best cover on the market but it is the best theft deterant you can buy. Or keep a pitbull in the back

I would like to see someone with a hammer try and beat their way through a fiberglass cover. It would sure take a while, and one heck of alot of noise. I cannot see any form of smash and grab thing going on. A pry bar would probably be a better tool for a thief, but those who know the ins and outs of box cover thefts, can probably pick any single lock on any of them in less than 30 seconds.

I work with a guy who can pick any lock, from any manufacturer, padlock, (Yes master lock too), car door, office door ****, ect, literally ANY lock i have pointed at to test him he can have it open in well under a minute. And no, he is not a locksmith.

Roll top may be better, but IMHO, it would be the slimmest of margins. Any hard cover will keep the average thief out. The pro's will get in no matter what.

I have a fiberglass bed cover with one of those circular lock things. If they use a hammer they better have gloves on. They will be digging fiberglass out of their hand for a week. Also, my Viper alarm would scare the **** out of them. Hell, I can kick my tire and it will go off.

why would you kick your tire?

The best cover is a locked garage!

I still vote for the pit bull in the back. But that just me

A tiger may be a better choice for some lol. I'd like to see you locksmith get by that one!

If you decide the tiger may not be the best option...

I like my Century cap, has two locking cylinder locks (but lots of glass).
Some of my buds have had their vinyl bed covers knifed and ripped to shreds even though they had nothing stored in there. If a thief wants to get into your truck he will, but seems the soft tonneau covers make easy pickings.
