I think the 04+ have a third brake light wire along the frame, under the drivers seat. When I was looking for info on wiring the shell on my '99, I know I came across a how-to for a 04+ ... look around, it shouldn't be too hard to find

'97-'03s that have the Trailer Towing package have a green wire just for the camper shell. it is located just forward of the connector on the main wire harness in the driver side rear just under the taillight. Kinda behind the rear wheel. '04 and up should have it also, as long as you have the towing package. All you have to do is run your primary wire from this to the topper 3rd lite and then run the return ground to the ground located near this green wire on the frame.

As for the dome, again, if you have the towing pkg, I think the orange wire going to your 7 pin trailer connector is a "hot at all times" power source. Tap into it for your power to the dome light and return the ground to the same spot as above.

I am actually doing this on my '01 tomorrow and will report back.

On the 04+ F-150 the wire is below driver’s door on the outside of the truck frame behind the plastic box, it is Light Green. The power for the dome light can be gotten from behind the bumper wether it has the tow package or not. If it has the tow package you can tap into the orange wire at the trailer plug. If it doesn't have the tow package the orange wire is still there, it is up on the frame at the main plug about 8 inches from the end of the frame. It will be on the cab side of the plug but not on the bumper side, just tap into it here.

And BTW the hot wire on a Ford is not allways hot, it is only hot when the key is in the on position.

Run your own wire from the battery or a hot post in the fuse box.
