2009 F-150 with A.R.E tonneau and bedrug

I shopped around and eventually decided on the A.R.E.. Very satisfied with the specs and the installation. Trying to photograph the Bedrug is impossible! I will wait for a bright sunshiney day and point it toward the sun and try. Here's some photos in the meantime. The truck "ain't much" compared to some around here. It's just an XL w/ the 3valve 6 speed, tow, and 3.55 LS axle. Pretty basic, but I have a Park Avenue and an Enclave that are pretty much loaded and I wanted one that I could get dirty in. Anyway here she is:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your cover is not installed correctly. You shouldn't be able to see any of the bedrail/tailgate caps when the lids is closed. But it is a simple adjustment by turning the bumpstops down. Don't turn them to far though, when first installed seeing a small bit of the caps (1/8") is ok to allow for the cover to settle and not settle enough to rub the paint.

I have an ARE LSII on my '07. Love it. I had to get it repainted a month after purchase because the paint chipped around the lock/latch. ARE completely sprayed it again and I'm highly satisfied. - Og

They told me they installed it a little high to allow for some settling. They also told me to stop by in a month or so and they'll "dial it in".

Looks good. A.R.E. makes a great product! I run a Z series cap on my truck for camping and such when I don't have my soft tonnoue cover on.

Glad to see your pics. Looks great...especially on the red. And, I would've probably bought an A.R.E. if they'd just make one in a little lower profile and a little lighter in weight. But, they all look good.

They do it's called the Action Cover, pretty much the same thing as the SnugLid but a good bit cheaper.

That's cool, but that is extemely high to allow for settling. I guess they don't want to take any chances. You don't have to go back to them for the adjustments you can do them easily yourself. You should have gotten the paperwork that comes with the lid with detailed/picture instructions on how to do the adjustments.

I know, and I did get the instructions, but if they'll do it on the free while I go next door for a Lumberjack breakfast what the hey!

Hey Skydog,

Do you have any gap between the lid and the front bed rail? I just had an ARE LSII installed yesterday and there is something not right. I noticed it last night while washing the lid and will be getting ahold of the installer.



It stretches all the way across. That is the blue paint off my cab you see on my '09

That is an easy fix, they just didn't use enough tape on the front rail. They should have looked at the truck and seen their isn't a drop in liner that would necessitate adding more tape. All they have to do is stack the tape, I usually do 3 layers on the Fords to allow for the tape to compress and still maintain a good seal .

Thanks for the info - I stopped at the dealer today. They believe the gap is too big to fill with any type of tape. They are calling ARE to find if there is a better solution. I didn't realize my drop-in liner took up that much room.

ARE will tell them that same thing. It's not to big of a gap to put 3 layers of cap tape on. I have been filling spaces like that for 13 years since Ford started putting on the bedcaps like that in 97.
