Lund Genesis Rollup Tonneau Review

I put one on last night and thought I'd pass along my observations. Truck is a 07 F150 LB. Ordered the tonneau last friday, arrived sometime yesterday (drop shipped from the mfg), it was on the front house steps when I got home. Everything came through shipping fine, box was in good shape, no dents or damage. The box is about 8'-9' long as this is for a 8' pickup box. Install: instructions are worthless, impossible to read and so small print I had to get a magnifying glass to try and read them. I've put on tonneau's before so it was more a matter of figuring out which part went where. Directions say it takes 20 minutes, I took about 35 as I was figuring it out as I went along. They say to strip off the tape backing first, I say leave it on, get everything positioned then take one piece off, remove the tape and put it back on. Easier to reposition pieces if needed, which I did have to do. Put the side rails are far forward as you can, otherwise the front piece won't cover the front of the box (instr say to put them as far forward and as far back as you can - that doesn't make sense). I did have to puttz with the clamps, 3 per side and it took a couple of attempts to get them adjusted correctly to hold the rails onto the sides of the box correctly. You do need a 7/16" wrench or socket to loosen and tighten them. There are 3 clamps to a side and 2 bolts in the front to join that to the side rails, not too much there. Frame is aluminum, top is vinyl. Back slips into a hook on either side then you pull it down to lock it into place. Velcro on each side to attach the cover to the side rails. The round ribs slide into loops on the bottom of the cover and sit in the side rails when in use, I could see them coming out if you have it loosely rolled up and had alot of vibration it could shake them out. I'm thinking maybe adding a wire tie on each side to lock them together a little better when rolled up. It did snap down tight, easier to roll up than the Lebra I have on my old truck. Velcro seems to hold tight so far. Quality of the tonneau seems good. Other than lousy directions, rest seems good. My observations of the install. Hope it helps someone. Paul

SOOO true.

the 6 clamps are a PITA to get perfect so the rails dont lean out or in. also, if you put them too low..they wont grab the bed !

i have the same bed cover and i love the functionality of it. can't tell you how many times i've had to roll it out of the way to fit something into the bed. i never would have been able to do that with a hard tonnau cover.

all in all - it was a great buy for me too

Update:

I found a used "Ford" bedliner yesterday and added that to the truck. It won't fit under the bedrails with the tonneau installed, the tonneau has to come off first. I was able to get the tonneau frame off without damage as it had only been on a couple of days so the tape hadn't stuck yet. If the tonneau was on longer, don't know how that removing the tonneau without damaging the tape would have occurred.

Installed together, they complement each other.
