Need Tonneau Cover ASAP .... Undercover vs Fiberglass
Hey all,
I need to order a new cover for my truck this week. Trying to decide between an Undercover and a Leer 700 or ARE LSII cover.
I really, really, really like the Undercover because of the fact that it can easily be removed and stored. But here's the kicker: I'm planing on putting in a Bed Rug and a killer audio system in so I need something thats 100% watertight and dust-proof (for the most part), and I'm just not sure if the Undercover is going to cut it.

Had my undercovcer for over 6 years now and love the thing. Waterproof yes, dust mostly cause I drive on dry dirt roads alot a little gets in but not very much. If it was just on paved roads then I won't worry.

My Undercover does not allow any water in. My Bedrug stays dust free and dry at all times. The only time it gets dirty is when my wife uses it in spring to pick up flowers at the garden center, but the pedals and coco bean mulch vacuum up real nice if you do it right away. I drove to my brother's wedding with my suit coat back there in a pounding rain for 60 miles and everything was dry.
The only way to get water in there is to make a mistake like leaving it unlocked and parked in a rain storm with the wind on the back of the truck. A strong wind can flip it open, so it's important to keep it latched at all times.
I like the look of a hard painted cover and you are talking about a killer audio system back there so does weight for removing it really matter? I had a leer 700 on my 2002 and this one I went with the leer 800. Both are nice covers, the 700 never let in any water of dust but I haven't had the 800 on long enough to test it. Make sure you put a good seal on the endgate. I built a wood liner and covered them with carpet for both trucks. There is more pictures in my gallery.
I have an Undercover on my 2004 Dark Shadow Gray SCrew. It keeps the rain out. It is relatively lightweight and comes off easily. I weigh a few pounds less than 300, and I can stand on it without it breaking.
Two weeks ago, I sold my '99 SCab Flareside to buy an '09 Lariat White Sand tri-color. I am faced with the same decision. I had hoped that the Undercover on my '04 would fit my '09. Just add hardware and switch back and forth. Doesn't work. I have about decided to go with Undercover. It is only about $3-$400 dollars less than fiberglass, but the Undercover is tougher, has a light and is water resistant.
I just got off the phone with one of several Undercover dealers in the Houston area.
I am paying $695 total (tax and installation included) for a 5.5 ft. box cover for my 2009 White Sand Tri-color Lariat . It should be installed tomorrow afternoon. Had I looked harder I may have found a cheaper price. I do not have time to install it myself.
I paid $625 five years ago for my 2004 SCrew plus tax (8.25%) or $676. That 2004 price was based on a quantity of two as a co-worker and I ordered together.
I still think the fiberglass is better looking, but the Undercover is more practical for me.
