painting chrome nerf bars and aluminum toolbox

Has anyone ever painted chrome running boards or an aluminum toolbox. When I got my truck it had a bunch of ugly chrome on it (door handles, fender well covers, etc) and I took it all off, but I want get rid of the chrome on the running boards and toolbox. I would just take them off but my fiance likes them to get in my truck with. Any ideas and photos on how to prep things would be great. Thanks.

Pull the chrome running boards off and get a set of black step bars. I know you can also get a black tool box for trucks but not sure who makes them.

just because you like chrome doesn't mean everyone does, I thought there'd be some helpful information on this forum.

Read what he said again. He wasnt saying he likes chrome he said pull the chrome ones and buy some black ones to put on your truck. He also suggested buying a black toolbox for your truck. Now that being said you can either by some or powdercoating them would be your best option I think. Unless your planning on having them professionally done. But powdercoating is tougher and last longer from my expieriences.

for the running boards I used Rust-Oluem Black Spray paint on all the chrome just do alot of prep work prior, use steel wool and some good brushes to really scratch them up then I sprayed about 5 thinner coats and they have actually help up really well now for a couple months.. just a thought, Im trying to figure out if I can paint my toolbox also right now also.
