Just bought an 08 CrewCab - Will older caps fit?

I just bought an 08 Crew Cab with a 5.5' short bed. I want to pick up a cheap cap for my truck. I'm going to be driving up to Missouri in July with my new truck, and in the bed we're going to be bringing our 3 dogs. I only intend to use it occasionally, so I don't really care if it looks good, or if it fits 100% perfectly. I care more about function than form for its purpose. Will a cap from the previous gen F150, 2000-04 fit (mostly) an 04-08 gen? Just curious to know if I can expand my search to include the caps on Craigslist from the previous gen, because I have to admit, the previous gen F150 caps are a LOT cheaper than caps for my Gen. Similarly, will caps from other makes (Dodge, Chevy, Nissan, etc.) fit my Gen F150? Again, I don't care if it fits perfectly, or looks factory-perfect. I just wonder if any other caps are "good enough."

I can't answer for sure but i think the pre 04 is alot narrower than the 04+ so I do not think they will interchange.I just had this same issue and picked one up on craiglist for $400.leer w/ carpet,flush windows.If your only going to use it occasionally look at the aluminum toppers. Easier on and off and new ones are cheap.

Dont know what features your wanting but, I have a Swiss fiberglass 5.5 cap no side windows for a 04 thru 08 I would sell. I'm in S/E Indiana near Cincinnati

They will not fit!!! Only ones that will fit is 2004-2008.. Just an FYI, I am selling my 2007 A.R.E. Fiberglass top like new for $500.. Not trying to high jack.
