I hate the name "Tonneau" !

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's a name that was originally used by one company (The Tonneau company) for some cheesy, vinyl peace of garbage, that turns your bed into a swimming pool every time it rains. Of course if that's the kind of bedcover you have..... Especially if it was actually made by the Tonneau company (do they still even make bedcovers ?) then I guess it might work for you. But the thing is, their are actually guys who call "real bedcovers" a Tonneau ! WTF ? Personally, I own, and love, my "fiberglass bedcover" (or just 'bedcover' for short) made by Snugtop 'Tonneau' covers are for sissies LOL Fish

If I were ever talking to someone and they used that word in a conversation, I'd probably think they were choking on something :-)

That's fine - mine works exactly how I want it to - keeps everything I want underneath it dry, and when I have to haul anything large I can simply roll it up in seconds out of the way.

i like my hard cover, but that's the downfall. i had to pick up a sofa for my boss one day & had to drive with the thing open. the soft cover i had was cool since it was hinged & then you could take it off (easier & faster than rolling it up). i wish i still had it.

but i do hate typing the word "tonneau" cover. lol.

Honestly, my last Snugtop came off very easily, with just the removal of two cotter pins. It still almost required two people because of the bulk of the cover, but it wasn't too heavy. And still, I only found a need to remove it about 5 or 6 times, in the 11 years I owned it.
My new one, on the other hand, because of the remote auto opening thing, looks like more of a PITA.

The thing is, I think I could move a couch or something like that (if I had too) without removing the bedcover.... I'd just leave it open.

On the other hand, although I ALWAYS use my bed with cover, for storage of fishing stuff.... net, anchor, t-motor, etc, I almost never need it for hauling crap like furniture, as 1) I don't own any furniture, and 2) My bed cover gives me a great excuse to not have to haul anybody elses furniture :-) That, and..... Oh Thursday ? Sorry... I'm fishing Thursday. Oh... Friday ? Sorry, I'm working Friday..... Monday ? Sorry, I'm fishing again ;-) (see a pattern here ?) I'm not in the moving business.

Ya' know, something just came to mind.....
Guys will often say > But what if I need to haul something big ? ......and I guess some do haul big bulky items where a bed cover would be a nuisance. I'm sure some even do it often. But I'd bet that a lot of guys do not get to benefit from a bed cover, with large, wide open, safer, "hidden", dry, storage space, 362 days a year...... So that 3 days a year, they can haul somebody elses couch for them. Uhhhh... Okay.

This reminds me of "a lot of" the guys with back seats in their truck, who say > Well I have kids.... and the guys at work.... well "IF" I need extra seating..... But I drive around all the time seeing Supercrews and Supercabs with "nobody in the back seats". I'm not saying they never use them. Apparently it's just when I'm not looking :-) {speaking of back seats in an S-cab.... sure with I could sell mine. Been trying for months on Craigslist, with no takers :-(

Anyway, my hard-cover works GREAT for me, but I know they are not the best for everyone. Still though.... hard or soft, the name 'Tonneau' is gay ;-) LOL

I want a tonneau/ta-no/bed cover/thing-over-bed for my truck but am un-decided. I dont want a hard fiber glass or a flimsey cheap vynal one. I want something more around the lines of the bak flip, xtract, something that will provide adiquete security for items and last long and remove easilly since I actually do always use my truck from its back seat to haulin mulch, stone, fourwheelers, and more in my 6'5 bed

I wanted a LID for when I need to keep stuff dry and for looks, but I finally decided it just was not practical. Too many times I need to haul taller things and it would be a hassle.

I like my "fiberglass hardcover". It's a LoRider and it's easily removable. I've never had a reason to remove it because I have a utility trailer I can use if I need to haul anything. It leaked a little during Hurricane Ike, but what do you expect with 110 MPH winds coming at you from both sides-the northeast before the eye and then the west after the eye. I'm real happy with this cover.

I can see why people prefer both. As stated, mine is perfect for what I need it for. For me, almost every week I am hauling something fairly large in the back of my truck, and as such, I need to be able to remove the cover quickly and easily.

I've never liked any of them. I understand the purpose and all, just have always felt like if you wanted a trunk, you should have bought a car. Trucks have beds. Besides, I generally just don't like the way they look.

I've also always thought Tonneau was a stupid word. I feel like I'm speaking French when I say it, I try to avoid saying it. lol It's a bedcover.
